Well.. I wound up deciding to hunt the shell and stone accumulation low on the beach near low tide today..hoping to find leftovers gathered there.
I made an eyeball find that I'm super excited about for several reasons..one being it's not broken.
So.. I get home..rinse everything then grab my phone to take photos.. I see I have messages...one was from a friend that is part of a local metal detecting club; She sent me a photo of something one of the members found on one 1715 fleet beach yesterday .... here is that photo.
It kinda looks like its in a fish tank but hey..I didn't take the pic.

Now here is what really got me!
This is what I found today.
I belive it's a crucible of sorts by the small section of the rim pulled to create a place to pour from.
However after checking it with my detector it doesn't read any metal.
Apparently like was common the terracotta was coated with tar to seal it for holding a liquid.
This is the second one I've found on this beach..and with the other..now I've seen three from the same beach.

Thank you.
There is an area on this beach that has always seemed to catch pottery.
I've even been lucky by just scratching around there.

I've been keeping track of where things seem to accumulate on the new beaches I've been hunting. It's kind of interesting in that some places seem to accumulate a lot of liter junk, i.e., can slaw, pull tabs, etc., while some areas seem to accumulate a lot of iron. One of the first things I start looking for when walking the beach are those areas that contain a lot of bigger/heavier shell or their fragmants, pieces of coral, sandstone, etc. It seems that nine times out of ten these same areas will also accumulate a lot of other items as well.

Very true..to a point.
Those things all present alot of surface area for the water to act on.
Coins for instance usually present their surface area flat to the sand with little for the water to act on.
I've found coins tend to come to rest in areas of compact sand and finer shell fragments especially if there is a flat spot that meets a decent slope..I've often found coin lines on the flat where those two meet.
Sometimes you'll only see a small section of shell material exposed.. I'll often dig my toes in to feel what's just below..there is often alot more covered with just an inch or two of sand.
If you like finding fossils keep your eye out for black objects in that heavier material gathered low on the beach.

I wish I could put these two posts together ... I'm getting some great info and examples in the (Treasure Hunting) "shipwrecks" forum.
It's starting to look like these are simple oil burning "lamps"
The post is titled "eyeballed intact clay artifact..."

so...the ship from the 1700's was all ready to smelt gold but never got the chance? Really cool finds. No nearly as fine-appearing as the one in the first pic. Much more chunky/sturdy. Small crucibles were also used to melt glass. Interesting and cool. Thanks! Yak

Reminds me of a ladle, perhaps to scoop out freshwater water from a communal barrel?
