Sounds like a awesome book. I am going to check ebay for a copy I love books on the gold rush, I just finnished reading Tisha a book about 1920's Chicken Alaska. Another awesome book. Even in this book the school teacher Ann Purdy used a gun to prevent an abduction of two children she was caring for. She even purchased a .22 rifle for an eight year old boy. Check it out a great book.

I agree.....in my case my skin is like an alligator so no big deal....lol...

But as you stated it is a worthwhile thread...I guess because what prompted it is still fresh in peoples minds everyone is pretty edgy about it which as least means everyone's intentions are good even though they come at the problem/solution from a somewhat different mindset.

It's complicated where my mindset comes from....spent most of my professional life negotiating contracts, etc....so I tend to be more of mediator/facilitator....by nature....

Is it the best approach to the issue or not don't know.....but at least it tries to find some common ground to move forward on the subject.

I would think most open minded people who participated openly on the thread hopefully got a bit of insight and food for thought if nothing else......

You can't fight intimidation with intimidation.

During the "wars", how many were killed by friendly fire?
The more bullets you put in the air the more innocent people there will be who are going to be hit. Bring all of these bullets into the stressful civilian world and that number can only increase.
Unfortunately, because it has been allowed to reach the point it is at today, the source must now be addressed.

Let's not forget that these recent events were predicted many years ago as more and more violence started becoming visible in our society in the form of entertainment. I can well remember the many challenges to get it more strongly regulated, I can also remember the stern defenses that were displayed by the opposition in the form of, "rights." We cannot continue to allow "rights" to over-ride common sense and what is best for the entire country.

Scoop my friend, the statistics don't agree with what your saying. According to FBI reports, National violent crime had been on steady decline for the last 20 years up to 2010, violent crime jumped 17% in 2011, the first increase in 20 years.... No report is available for 2012 yet, but a 1 year jump is not a trend, especially after 20 years of dropping crime rates...

I certainly will not ever surrender my weapons, it is a known fact that crime goes down when citizens are armed.... Since Florida passed the right to carry law in 2005 violent crime in Florida has dropped by 23 percent by 2010.. Florida's homicide rate fell from 36% above the national average to 4% below, and remains below the national average. Texas had the same results when they passed the right to carry with murder and rape plummeting after the law was passed... The facts speak for itself, crime rates have gone down in states that passed the right to carry laws....

Bill ,usually its one view or the other i hear. Interesting to hear from a cross section. Not familiar with willing public discussion. Mediation experience another example of the benefit of diverse backgrounds in input. Thread makes me think of how i would explain my opinion to say someone in the medical field who sees innocent and not so innocent shot and ask why anyone has a gun.
T.H. while crime,especially violent ,drops in shall issue states .There are figures from states that have the greatest restrictions showing greater crime.
Sure you know that but came to mind.

Data pulled from FBI reports..... There is no doubt violent crime goes down in states with right to carry laws...... The criminals in those states have to stop and think, is he carrying a gun? If you look and act like a victum your chances of being attacked/robbed is higher than if you look like you are capable of defending yourself and are confident.....

I see people carrying conceled a lot here, even though conceled, the shirt/coat slips open, pants leg pulls up and so on..... It does not cause me any concern to see someone else carrying.....

LMAO! My wife and I often go out to dinner with our daughter/soninlaw(LEO) and their 2 kids . All 4 adults are CCW and we make a game of 'Who Else Is Carrying'.
Kids ,11 and 8, are as good as we are at spotting .
Sometimes the SiL will walk over to the really obvious ones and tell them that even his kids saw that their 'clutch is slipping'. Most become very embarassed and more aware of their surroundings and presence .
