Interesting bank stop

Had a Dr appt today so I made a detour on the way home to return along a very scenic skyway. In the first town I stopped in at a couple of small banks and was told that an older gent had already been there yesterday and bought all the rolls of halves they had. One teller said she had 2 loose halves in her drawer that she had offered to him yesterday. She said he had refused without even looking at them, he said he only wanted rolls.

She asked me if I was looking for certain dates and I said yes, but that I buy all that I can find because I am always looking for better ones to replace not-so-good ones in my collection. She looked at them and read off the dates, then asked me if I wanted them. A 1964 and a 1967. I told her sure, I need those dates

Some CRH'er out there missed out on a couple of silvers by refusing some loose halves that were offered. Bad news for him, good news for me

The next town all the banks were already closed by the time I made it there. Found out that most businesses in that town close down after noon on wednsdays.

that is quite interesting I always buy the loose even if they are junk. I bring back my coin vault bags , bagged at $500 so I need some junk loose to fill in the silver i cull

I can't imagine passing up loose. Several of my 40%'s were found in teller trays.

From a percentage standpoint, the loose finds are much more productive for me.

I agree. I love getting loose coin from tellers, especially if I can see silver edges in the tray. I don't ask for just the silvers from the tray, don't want to indoctrinate any teller into picking silver if she's not already. I just buy the whole lot of that denomination she has

BTW, I think it was the same older guy that CRH's in the Athens TN area. I find 40%'ers in his dumps quite often. This town was not far from Athens TN, and from what the tellers in the surrounding towns tell me, he apparently runs that same route every tuesday. This is the same guy that caused a bank to start charging a $20 fee to use the coin counter in their lobby. I've opened accounts with closer branches of nearly all the banks I stop at on my road trips, just in case I get asked.

Silly man.. I got $4.50 in halves once. All but 1 were silver.

I ALWAYS take the loose ones.

Actully I usually tell them "I'll take all the halves you can find in the bnak".

Even if it's just 1 single coin. I got a 90%er from a teller that only had 1 half in his tray.

Agreed. The first $5 worth of halves I ever bought were loose in a teller's tray and contained a 1964 Kennedy. Never leave the tray coins behind, even if the teller is a silver picker.
