Is this a old foo dog

Picked this up because the detail seemed very nice on this piece.....the mouth and ball have openings.......anyone know how to tell a original..... Can't really make out the marks on the bottom but they are on two corners on the bottom..... The tourqoise is a bit more vibrant then what the pics show

Foo dog, probably. It doesn't look very highly detailed to my admittedly untrained eye. Export piece I'm guessing.

I do know this is a slip cast piece. I'm not sure if the originals were slip cast or hand built. But slip casting seems more likely a repo to me.

I'm thinking it was made within the last 20 years or so? The mall near me has an Asian import store that sells these things.

Yes this is a "FOO DOG" (Male) sometimes referred to as Lion dogs.
These statues come in male and female pairs - a physical manifestation of Yin and Yang energies. Chinese folklore tells us that it’s important to keep the two together to ward off evil, and according to Feng shui tradition the placement of the Foo Dogs must be correct in order to achieve the beneficial effects of their power - the male should be placed on the right hand side of the door, and the female on the left.
