Is this iron buckle logging gear?

It is about 4" wide. Found it at the base of this tree. So I now have this whole story in my head of what might have happened in this scene :D

Thanks to you both! :icon_thumleft: I was imagining them using horses or oxen to try to haul this big log out of the forest when the buckle broke/ was lost and that's why they left the log there. But it is a pretty standard piece I guess so could be a number of reasons for the coincidence.
