Kevin, have you tinkered around with that drywasher yet? I imagine the key will be cowboy handkerchiefs and trying to be upwind of the dust. :) Post some pics of that monster! And on that note, BGT why havent you created the Aero Bed Dry Gold Trap yet???? ;) Think about it, same concept as the fluid bed but with air. I'm thinking 4 or more different chambers with different psi.
the Drywasher is checked over and ready to go but the area I want to hit has been rained on almost everyday this last month :( I plan to use an N95 medical mask, I have some I've used in similar circumstances before. Not taking any risks with dust ....silica is rough enuf on the lungs let alone fungus spores...

Still hoping for a run of sunny dry weather this next month, we get that sometimes in the CO mountains. Fingers crossed.

As you may know, I had big plans for this past weekend, going up to Seattle to see family and taking them prospecting along with 425Jesse. It all happened just as we hoped and we all had a great time! First here we are on the Raging River at a fairly popular spot: image-2629675697.jpg I started out with a talk about choosing where to set up with my nephews (and brother in law). image-3913631725.jpg getting set up...

Burning the midnight oil. :)

Looks like great times were had! Cant wait to see heavy pans.

Congrats to you both; and your families.

Meanwhile my wife was on the phone (catching up with our son...) :) image-39459507.jpg We stopped for a snack and to see how we were each doing so far (first pic is Jesse and me, second is the whole group): image-472739628.jpg image-2875728995.jpg Then back to it! image-2057477308.jpg

The boys did their share of panning too, getting quite good at it. They found gold of course...and I had them pan into a safety pan which I then panned out and found NO escaped gold :) image-3555605220.jpg My brother in law really extended the hole his wife started! (We had an even bigger hole right upstream do the sluice too :) image-3922086658.jpg And here's a peek at a bit of the gold (for Sherry!). This is about 1/6 of the total I would say and is typical of what you see from this site although Jesse also told us a story about a nugget found about 20 yards from where we were by another guy. image-1807195786.jpg At the end I told the boys that their combined birthday/Christmas present was that they get to keep the sluice! (I gotta get my order in for a new prospector ASAP but will make due (LOL) with my sniper until then :) image-639905390.jpg

What a great time we had, good gold and great people!!

Well done Kevin! Great times, thanks for the pics!

Hey Kevin,
It's been too long! I see your sluice has been doing pretty well this summer. :icon_thumright: I happen to have this Saturday (Sept 6th) off and was wondering if you knew of any prospecting excursions taking place this weekend that I might be able to tag along. By the way, thanks for showing me that spot on the Platte, I have had color in the pan every time I have gone!

Glad you've had some real success!

Tomorrow I will be at Grant frontier Park, on the South Platte just south of Evans Blvd (east side of river for parking) from about 9am on. For much of the time, I'll be working as a volunteer at an annual event: Panning On The Platte, teaching kids and their families how to pan and stuff. Would be great if you came down, the guests love to see real prospectors in action and there's plenty of room for you to set up there. Join us!

PS I plan to bring my Bazooka Sniper to do a little digging for myself too :)

PPS I was out on South Boulder Creek today with a friend. Had a great time despite it being a chilly wet day :) Pics and gold to follow...

Kevin, had a question. I've seen how to season a gold pan, but Dow would I season a metal pan? I don't want to go ahead and put scratches all over it to allow rust do I? I know it will rust eventually.

To season a metal pan, you heat it up to burn off any oil left from manufacturing :)

...just toss it in the campfire (or oven).

Pics from South Boulder Creek yesterday. Our dig site with my friend fishing in the upper left of the pic and you can see my shovel handle.

Lots of parking :)

LoL! Here's the gold from the last three outings: Clear Creek at Arapahoe Bar Prospecting Park (top), South Platte at Grant Frontier Park (right side) and South Boulder Creek including a picker! image-1032369998.jpg These were Sept 3, 5 and 6th adding up to 0.07 grams with that one nice 3D picker from S Boulder Creek :)
