Learning to pan, couple questions

Hey guys I ordered a few bags of dirt off the net. I'm starting to get through the first one. I can get down to the small flakes, and into the snuffer. Then I got it dried out, but have know idea how to get it into the vial. Its such a small amount i'm afraid going to lose most of it moving it!

Put the gold in a clean pan with some water on it (not tap water with chlorine as the chlorine will slowly dissolve your gold!). Then suck up the gold and squirt it into your vial. I always do this with the vial in the pan so any errors are easy to just re-do.

Definitely better than a snuffer bottle and cheaper. A suction pipette aka suction tweezers is the way to go.

So never use faucet water? maybe bottled water?

Buy a funnel that is made for that purpose..... same place you bought the snuffer bottle should have the funnels. Or..... take a pair of scissors and cut a round blank out of a pop can. fold the blank to make a funnel-shape. Punch a hole in the bottom. Go under water with the funnel, bottle and vial. Transfer the gold.... still under water. If you also have the cap under water, you will not have any bubbles in the vial after screwing the vial cap on.... underwater. TTC

Its a personal choice - if I have several grams, I put it in the vial dry. If less than a gram, it "shows" better wet.

Right...unless you let the faucet water sit open to the air for a day or so to let the chlorine evaporate or breakdown.

Keep in mind that some towns and cities don't use chlorine. They use clorimine instead which won't evaporate out. you can call your local water department to find out which they use. I have no idea how it reacts to gold though.

Search and find a snuffer bottle where the straw can be removed. All I do is remove the straw, and empty the snuffer directly into the vial. Simple, fast and effective. Keep water in the vial.

if you want to store wet, use rubbing alcohol instead of water. don't have to worry about chlorine or stuff growing in it....
