My first target was a 1916 wheat while I'm filling in the hole my buddy is recovering a 1831 capped bust half dime. Oldest silver I've ever found was a seated and never found a U S 1/2 dime so Im obvious jealous. A while later I found the large cent and I think a cotter pin. Altogether, a productive 3 hours. Oh and I don't think the crazy horned spiders will keep him away from my spot!!!

Very nice finds!!! That is not a cotter pin but a jews harp. It is missing the little center piece that makes "music". Google jews harp and you will see. Love those coins too.

Glad you both dug great old coins! :headbang: Your tale of woe is hilarious!

My adult son & I detect both solo and together, and either way he nearly always pulls up better and more than I do, lol.
:BangHead: Finally this year I'm catching up a bit with my first two digs of gold rings, when he already a year ago had dug four gold rings in separate locations. He has a nice collection of merc dimes to my one merc & he's dug several goodIndian head cents to my zero, even digging his most recent Indian head just a few yards from where I was working my ole butt off digging junk, grr. My only victory was a surface eyeball find of 1923 Peace silver dollar in a field where we'd both had gridded & detected many times before -- fun to finally watch his jaw drop in surprise! HAVE FUN & KICK YOUR BUDDY'S BUTT NEXT TIME! Andi

Killer finds........ both of ya tore it up on that hunt.:laughing7:

Something similar happened to my buddy and I on one of our recent hunts. He started out strong with a capped bust half dime (1832) and very soon after he found an 1864 two cent piece.... later on I found a wheatie and an 1819 large cent. That hard times token is one I haven't seen before. Very nice!!

I've found that same Hard Times token last year in a NYC park.Where are you located?

GREAT FINDS I LOVE THE HALF DIME . CAN YOU HERE ME?

Awesome finds Dutchtoga! You're friend must be a good hunter! Those small half-dimes are tough!:)

Awesome finds. Looks like a spot you could hit several times over

Sometimes the other guy gets the better and the most, but humility, patience, and decency are qualities of character that give you a true heart of gold! Keep your chin up! :icon_thumleft:

Very cool, congratulations!

yes indeed great finds for the both of ya

that's ok while teaching a 12 year old kid to metal detect --he's my "digging assistant" we were at a known to me union civil war site and we tried screening a spot right next to a spot we found a couple" modern" Wheaties at -- it seemed by my machines readings there might be a silver coin there and I wanted him to "find" his first silver coin * well -- he finds it very very worn --1838 "o" seated dime --we also found part of a old clay pipe and 3 cw era bullets that day.

You got two firsts, but don't want your "buddy" to get anything...sad
