Today I hunted a ball field that I've hit 5 times over the last few weeks. I keep thinking that it is possible it has not been hit hard by anyone because I've found silver every time I've been there. Here are my totals to date:

Clad 352
Wheaties 36
Silver dimes 8

Drum roll......REALE!!!! found today

I"ve measured it and believe it to be a 4 reale and it is in pretty nice condition. This is my first spanish silver and I can't believe this coin came from this ballfield!!!!

Found about 3-4" down with my Etrac and rang up at 12-45.

that ball field must have been something other than a ball field, i wonder what it use to be? any history of the property? nice finds

Jeff is right that is a rare dig. I can count on one hand the number I have seen posted. I'll go along with the banner vote.

That coin is just spectacular! The 4 reale is very tough to find like you know---VERY tough, and to be in such great condition :icon_thumleft: :icon_thumleft:
This coin deserves BANNER!

suhweeeet, nice finds indeed.

Absolutely fantastic Dancer ! The coin is in marvelous condition . I do not recall a Queen Isabelle Spanish silver being posted on T-net in the past 3 years ! She is pretty ! MaineRelic

holy cow! would love to hear the story behind that one. amazing find, well done.

you go girl,banner.. :headbang:

Great find! The others are right, you just don't see 4 reale coins dug, they are rare. In fact I don't recall ever seeing an Isabella, has anyone figured out where that one was minted? I'm guessing Spain.

By the way, I have dug 4 reales myself....an 8 reale cut in half!

WOW!!! :o You got my BANNER vote CD. :hello2:
I've never even seen or heard of a 4 reale. ;D
A big CONGRATS to you on that ballfield homerun.

that is funny Steve. Thanks everyone. Not much story to tell. I figured I'd get out for a short hunt today because it will probably be my last till I leave for Diggin in VA on Saturday. When I got to the field I was happy no one was there watching. Last week someone called in a complain that I was digging holes in the field. Someone from the township checked on me and said go ahead and dig. So I walked onto the field and this was my first find of the day!! I thought I had a silver quarter at first which made me very happy but when I saw the shield I knew it was something special. I didn't really look good at it till I was done for the day. I kept thinking I should have just stopped hunting after the first coin but was happy when I found the merc later.

Nice find! Never saw a 4r's Posted before. Ball fields hold some pretty suprising stuff! :headbang:
