Pulled all these out of the hill between Friday afternoon and Saturday night. The two red pieces between the quarters were found at a depth of about four feet. all the others were found together at a depth ranging from 19 to 21 feet. many questions. 20180307_154420.webp20180401_122118.webp20180415_173056.webp20180415_173118.webp20180415_173130.webp20180415_173146.webp20180415_173328.webp20180415_173357.webp20180415_173407.webp20180415_173457.webp

Welcome to tnet

Wow, blazerdog, looks like you found a nut pounding site. A lot of smashing rocks. Hey, the obsidian. You may have found the equivalent of what metal detectorists call a coin spill. That many obsidian preforms, no finished product? The native lost or misplaced his or her bag of special preforms, thousands of years ago, and you found it! Speculation on my part. Thanks for sharing, and yeah, you could use some help. It may be an important site needing proper excavation, no offense intended.

Wow, what a collection. Hope there's even more for you next time out!

no offense taken. here is the rest of the story. since I found the first pieces in early January, spent about seven days there. here is where I am at. obsidian points and tools 500+ .stone points and tools 200+ . small stone tools 400+ . large stone tools 200+. small rock art 100+ . medium rock art ( 1 to 3 lbs ) 125+ . large rock art over 3 lbs 70+. lot of owls and seven wooly mammoths. pieces that have been worked but I don't have a clue 200+. so believe me, no offense taken. I think this is paleo, just from what I've seen on the net. don't really know for sure.

no positive IDs. this is basically the first time I've gone public with it.. the property is on 19 acres of family owned land. the top ten acres are rented . The bottom ten where the site is. Is only about 60 yards from the highway, with easy access. most of the time nobody is there. its in lake county ca. No way to put it nicely, there is a lot of people that would strip the place bare. They have even stolen artifacts sticking out of the ground at the entrance of the local parks. I shudder to think what would happen if word got out to the locals.

Welcome to Tnet.

Looks like you have a mix of hand worked pieces & natural rocks.

Impressive counts. Would like to see some of the rock art you mentioned.

You are really working that area...Keep it up! :icon_thumleft:

Interesting very interesting. You got some great finds there. Don’t stop now. Congrats!

I will post some better pictures of the stones. i'm in the central valley right now, will be heading back up to lake county late tonight. No cell or net service where i'.m at up there , so will post when I get back down in a few days. Thanks for your interest.

Wow! Lots of ancient goodies!!

Nicely done, and all the best,

Lanny

post this over on the north american indian artifacts area...you will get a lot of info on your finds.

Thanks for your input. Yes, this is all new to me. i'm very aware how nature can mimic just about anything, do to the fact I've averaged about 28 days a year , for the last 39 years prospecting in the rivers creeks and streams of the Sierra Nevadas. So I know my way around a rock or two because I've dug , panned and sluiced tens if not hundreds of thousands of them. so I know about natural rocks. my concern about your response is you seem to come to conclusions without having very much information. Even if it may be available. I plan on posting pictures of many of the rocks in detail when I get back down. these pictures were meant.. to be a broad overview. you can't really see any of the details. Like the scribe lines or any of the worn finger , palm or thumb groves that make them fit better than a glove but if your interested in a few days you will. once again, thanks for the input.
