Minelab Safari

I post on Today's finds when there's something worthy to throw on.

These were my better digs up to (and including) the Summer. I have been out since but nothing really interesting enough to add to the list. Should be at least a couple hunts left so maybe I'll get one more before freeze up..

PS.. For some reason this year I can't seem to get over any decent coins. Detecting for me started out that way but did get much better, now it's back to wondering where they are.

Some coins from previous years.

Nice Iron!
If you are having problems finding coins I think you can get a good deal on a Quattro!

LMAO

Hey Nick!
I think you are onto something here!

You should contact Minelab immediately!

As a back up Don Henley may be able to do something with "Boys of Summer".

All the Minelabs have all modes, you just have to program the settings yourself. :icon_sunny:

I guess you are right i went in to .. www.mlotv.com ...and typed in safari and watched the video and not one thing said about beach hunting....................==Jim_K==

Kellyco has them in stock now......$998.00. they say minelab is back ordering them, but they have theminstock

Yeah, Kelly Co. probably bought all of them.

I think the new Safari is a cross breed between an X70 and the Explorer. Thats where I think they came up with the name Safari..kinda like an Explorer........whatever lol. It claims to have the 28 freqs like an explorer and 4 program modes like the X70. Hope is as good as it sounds.

Do you think it is close to the E-trac or would be like the E-Trac??

It seems to me that it's a low end version of the E- Track and the SE. Although the Safari has close to the same technolgy, it looks like it might prove to be a good machine. People have already bought the Safari and I'm waiting to hear from them on what they think. If all goes well and I think it will, I'll be getting one in the spring when the weather breaks up here. Lord knows I'll put it through the test and then I'll see if it was worth the shot. My hunch is that it will be.

The Safari is really almost exactly like a Quattro, with a faster processer and an improvement on the program that makes it handle trash much better. Also it uses the procoil.

I read the manual, and it is almost exactly the same manual as the Quattro. Down to exactly how the menu and the 4 programs work, along with how to "cross save" programs for the use of ferrous or coductive tones and visbility of icons.

I think it will be a good machine. I certainly like my Quattro.

Thanks,
mark

I have ordered a Safari and am waiting for it to be delivered. I will do an evaluation report as I learn it and get to know it. I have a manual and have been reading it. It doesn't look like there will be too much of a learning curve until you get into doing your own programs. The hardest part for me will be recognizing the various tones as I am use to a Garrett 2500 and it is entirely different. It does have the 28 freq. feature and apparently the ground balance is selected by the machine as I have not read anything on how to set the ground balance. They have a feature they are calling noise suppression, and I think that is the same as ground balance? If so, you can set it manually. The way you set the noise suppression is much like you set the ground balance on other machines. If you are wanting to dig the deepest targets, again like other brands you need to go to all metal and dig everything iron as well as "good" signals. It also shows the depth of the object detected and flashes an image of what it might be if it's similar to a ring or a coin. Gold still falls in the pulltab/foil range on this machine, but supposedly gold will emit a slightly different tone. So, if I can learn to recognize the gold tone it might be a big improvement over most other detectors. There are some other feature that I can't remember off the top of my head, and I would rather wait until I get the machine in hand to report anything else. Sorry, no actual experience report now. When I get a little experience I will start a new line. Monty

Hey Monty,
The noise cancel is how the machine chooses which of the 28 frequencies have the least interference.
The learning curve with the Safari will be getting used to what the machine is telling you by a combination of tone and ID number.
You also choose between sound by ferrous and conductivity, which changes what different metals sound like.

I would really suggest that you get Andy Sabich's book, "Mastering the Quattro". It is set up and sounds and IDs the same as the Q.
I really think you will love it when you get used to it. I sure wouldn't be in any hurry to get rid of my Quattro!

Good luck,
Mark

Re: Minelab Safari Will prove to be an awsome machine

I think this machine could be an awsome machine, as it took some of the best features from several models!
Especially with its 11 inch double D coil.

............................L.O.L. I like that one...............................

I have read it does have a faster proccessor, and they have resolved a few former Quatrro problems....................It sure doesn't hurt...........that they added the Pro coil as the standard one either !!!

It's a huge difference between the Safari and the Quattro. Faster processor and better software. It uses much from the ETrac.

It can quickly and effectively separate a quarter that is laying in the middle of a bunch of nails.

Mike
XS, II and SE can also do that...............they're all good at hitting on targets mixed with with Iron......

I'd like to see what a Safari does using a stock Explorer II FBS coil, or better yet, one of the slimline coils that shipped with the SE. I don't think their faster or better processor would make much of a difference, specially with the slimline coil attached. If anyone needs to substantiate new, so be it, but purchasing a Pro-Coil for an existing Quattro should provide similar performance.

I like their machines, but not their marketing strategies.

Hey Ricardo,
I agree on the procoil for the Quattro. I have one here for mine and will use it as soon as the snow, ice and below zero temps are all history.
I still think the Safari has some "refinements" that will make it stand out from the original Quattro too. While it is essentially the same as the Quattro I think the program is improved to overcome the high junk problems and improve response time. It's not different enough for me to trade up, but for someone deciding to buy new into FBS and not spend a whole lot of time learning to program their machine I think it will prove to be a great tool.

Good Luck,
Mark
