I'm heading to work because I have a 5:30 fitness training appointment...but I had to post this monster lady. I just got back about 45 minutes ago...and NO WAY I could go to work until I got the before and after pics...and posted this big old lady
I went back to the "Twighlight Zone" site that has now coughed up 10 coins...the newest date being the 1906 Barber Half last week.
It gave me about 2 hours of hunt time today before the interference took over again :sad10:
I wasn't 30 minutes into the hunt when I got a very...and I mean very iffy silver hit...but the depth meter was buried. It only hit in one direction and from one angle..but it just sounded so sweet for that split second that I gave it a shot. ::) Problem was that when I hit pinpoint...the cursor went straight upper left corner. ??? I told you guys in my last post I was going back here and dig ANYthing that made a peep...and this one not only peeped...but it peeped like silver :icon_sunny:
I was able to pinpoint slightly even through the interference but I still dug a big plug because of the depth..and because of the amazing coins that I have already plucked from this crazy site. I dug a 9" deep plug and then prayed as I ran the probe....NULLSVILLE . :dontknow: Went ahead and switched over to pinpoint with the probe and sure enough...nasty old rusty nail. I just stuck it in my pouch. :-[ Oh well...no big deal cause' if you want the deepies...you gotta' take some chances. I went ahead and filled in the deep hole and was really disappointed because that slight peep sounded too good to fool me ::)
Went ahead as I always do and re-swept the coil over the filled hole one more time before walking away...and BINGO  This time the signal was a little more than a peep...and it hit from more angles. :tongue3: I RE-dug the plug to about 10"and ran the probe one more time. Man did it sing!
It blew my ears off at 10" down but still nulled out when I moved it off the center of the silver hit. I knew I had something good because of the way the probe sang and also the depth...even though it nulled off the center. I dug another big clod out of the hole as to be sure not to damage whatever it was. At this point I was a full 12" down...and the Lesche handle tip was parallel with the ground level.
I picked up the clod...and carefully removed some dirt...which exposed the tip of a big nail. I then removed some more dirt from around the nail and saw what we all dream about....a BIG SILVER rim. :headbang: I thought..yippee...I got me another Barber Half...which would be my third in 10 days. I removed more dirt from the clod and boy was I WRONG! :hello2: I first saw the rusty nail laying right accross the back left side of the big silver coin...then the hole clod just fell apart. Out pops a SILVER MORGAN DOLLAR from a foot deep. :occasion14: Good thing there was a restroom close by ;D
What an unbelievable experience. I just had a feeling that after finding two barber halves...that there just might be more big silver hiding there. Not in my wildest dreams though...did I expect this monster silver lady. I truly can't explain the feeling I had when it popped out of the clod. :sunny:
You can see in the pic...exactly where the big rusty nail was setting directly accross the back left side and through the word "America"...which explains the good hit...but then slight null.
It still amazes me that the SE hit this at 12" down with a first rusty nail 3" above it...THEN a second big rusty nail laying right on the coin.
Thank you all for sharing this with me. :angel7:

Bryce, that's outstanding, I'm happy for you  You need to have pics taken of you with all the great coins you dig, and put them with the ones you show us and eventually make yourself a journal with all these great stories to look back on.

Awesome find and a big congrats on your Morgan.

Awesome Job !! :D ;D

I can't find a large silver to save my life. ??? My Hunting partner found 3 or so this season already. :icon_scratch: I can't dig one at all, it kinda sucks. Oh well, I will find one and when I do it will be a seated or bust.... :o ;D

Again nice find!!

Keep @ it and HH!!

Thanks Mud. You're right buddy. When you find one...I hope it IS a seated or bust

That is very sweet. It sounds like you had a good, hard fought dig for the prize, and that always helps.

Nice touch on leaving a bit of rust on it. I think a silver coin with a good rust stain gives you some bragging rights.

Thanks plehbah. Yup...me too  I have no interest in ever selling anything I find. I value the memories too much. I can always look at this baby and remember exactly where the nail was

Bryce , You are the Tiger Woods of Metal detecting , you never cease to amaze , and you always deliver

the goods . I am just stunned at the results you are getting with that SE. If i did'nt believe that i could still

grow into my MXT , I'd probably go get an SE right now. Keep up the great finds ! Gregory, Santa Fe.

Thanks Gregory. I've heard nothing but GOOD things about the MXT. It's a deep seeking critter

I've only found 1 full-sized dollar coin ever, an '82 clad Ike, and *that* was an unusual find.
It's that much more rare to dig up a Morgan!

You can probably spare one of the Barber halves now, plz snd 2 me via T-net, thx ever so.

;D I'll see what I can do Admiral :icon_sunny:

Wow Bryce, what an amazing find! ;D

I just know you are going to end up grid searching and digging all iffys at the twilight zone. Can't wait to see what else is in there. Thanks for all of the details about the nails, etc, good tips for a new SE user

Congratulations and HH, Mark

Thanks Mark. At this point...there's no more high hits. Probably won't be postin' much silver for a while. I am going to go back before long and start working the "no fun" low hits which is something I never do.

Good job! However the barber halves are worth more...Kane23

Thanks Kane23. I never worry about what a coin is worth. It doesn't matter to me whether it's worth 50 cents or $50...I just like diggin' silver. ;D

You are leading a charmed life silverfreak. It doesn't hurt either that you are so "in tune" with your machine and willing to be patient with thos iffy signals. Nice work. - Jim

Nat

Thanks Nat. I've been really lucky to finally be able to hunt this place. I just knew there had to be stuff there because nobody could ever get a detector to function there. I'm confident I got all the high silver hits there are to get. Heck I even dug a couple of holes when the SE didn't even peep ;D Now I'm going to make short trips there when I can and dig all the low conductor hits that are 6" or more deep.

t-bucket said:
WOW !!!!! Thats awesome Bryce !!!! Congrats on a super find.I think I would get a tent and camp out over that spot and dig all night. Have a good one and good luck on your next hunt. :toothy2:

Thanks G. I've done been a campin' already brother. Now I have to do the NOT fun part of diggin' the low hits.

Thanks Jim. Chasing iffy hits is how most of my better finds pop out.

looks like you "nailed" it to me

Bryce,
Ill take the nail.lol Congrads on the "Big Boy"
Nice condition, with a mintmark-excellent.
Joe

Those are super discoveries. I can't seem to find a silver half, but my hunting partner has pulled out a couple right in front of me. I'll dig a Rosie at 13", but run right over a half at 2".
