Hey everyone,
My adventures over the past 3 weeks have been nothing short of walking miles through woods. On the search for old homesteads.
I've been side tracked though. I wanted to go and investigate a area where my maps showed a nice old homestead or 2. However, as I was driving down the last rd to get to the site I spotted a half brick and half frame house still standing in the woods about a 100 ft off a nice old creek.
Also spotted a nice old foundation a few hundred yrds away. And recently went back and found another home in the same woods. Although I wasn't the first to hunt the sites I still pulled out a few keepers.
I eventually made the few mile walk back into the woods to find the original homestead I was looking for. Well I found it and it was the largest nicest site I have ever come upon in 15 yrs of hunting.
It was late in the day so I had only about a hr to hunt the site. It was huge with the most grass I ever seen in the middle of the woods anywhere. Unfortunately it was a dirt bike paradise and someone had hit it before I did.
In the hr we hunted it me and my brother. I found a huge I mean huge brass belt buckle. I found the boys brigade button. I found the brass lock and a few wheats. I spotted as I was leaving a huge beautiful spring house.
It has massive blocks. The foundation near it is huge also with a ton of rolled tin all over the place. It is a dream site. But it was hunted before I could tell. Lack of hits to be dug. I still have hope though.
The site is just so large with multiple dwellings that I know they left some keepers behind. Alot of that crushed orange stone lines the rds. Sites on a big creek and is just a beautiful site. I'll try and get some pics.
The trudge alone was no fun. Up and down a few mountains to get to it. I am gonna go back this weekend. Problem is the site is 30 miles from my home. My wife is tough she counts driving time as hunting time.
But I have some hope there is something good there to be found. Just need alot of time to work the site.
The LC's where found at the last great foundation I found. Pulled 2 more a 39 and a no date. Also got a nice 66 indian head. I'm gonna let that site rest for awhile.
I am interested though really in the star button I found. It has a iron backing that has basically fallen all apart. Is this a texas militia button. I also got a crazy little silver coin. A 1942 1/10 guilden silver coin from the netherlands. Thought I had another 3 center.
It was laying with iron as you can see. It just won't come off. Maybe electrolosis would clean it up better. Got about 23 wheats. Very bad ratio to silver. Only got 2 pieces. A nice 1914 barber dime and the 1/10 coin. Also one wheat was shot with a gun.
I got a 1897 indian and a 1907 v also. Got a flatttened civil war eagle button and three ww2 I think eagle buttons.
Hope you all like the finds and pics. Hopefully one of you guys out there can shed some light on the star button. It is domed and large with lines running through it.
Thanks again
Jeremy
