Robert Morriss was not in the War of 1812, he was running government in Lynchburg. I believe in 1813 he was Mayor of Lynchburg. His partner in business though James Dunnington was in charge of a detachment of troops from Lynchburg.

Robert MORRIS was indeed the Mayor of Lynchburg, Va. Not MORRISS, tho.

Rebel, His name was spelled both ways. On his wife's burial papers is Morrifs which is two "S's" Also his numerous deeds are the same way one half with one "S" and one half with two "S's

Yer saying Mayor Robert MORRIS had a wife by the name of Sarah, and IS the Robert MORRISS of the BEALE PAPER(S)...? NEVER seen THAT, before...

So,who had access to E F Beale's 1850 "THE BEALE PAPERS" and used it as the basis of Ward's T J Beale story in his 1885 "THE BEALE PAPERS" pamphlet?

Wouldn't have been necessary to have a copy as E. F. Beale's activities were common knowledge by the 1880's. Following the Adam's Onis Treaty of 1821 there wasn't much that went on in the territory that didn't become news. Not sure I'm following what you're suggesting?

That should be easy enough to check out------go down to the City of Lynchburg Government. They should have a photograph and his history. Easy to find out if Robert Morriss was Mayor of Lynchburg or not?

LOL! I ALREADY know Robert MORRIS was Mayor of Lynchburg, Va. in 1813; I asked YOU if Robert MORRIS & Robert MORRISS was the SAME person; did Mayor Robert MORRIS have a wife by the name of Sarah, as in the BEALE PAPER(S)... is all. THEN! We need to find his WILL...

Hazelwood and Sherman could not be the two men that anything to do with the Beale Treasure. First, Hazelwood was Chief Clerk for the railroad in Roanoke, Va in 1897------no way could he have fought in the War of 1812. He would have had to been born in 1794 and would have been 103 years old as George and Clayton Hart's boss. Same goes for Sherman writing the Beale Treasure in 1885 and fighting in the War of 1812. Sherman would have been over 91 years old when he wrote the Beale Treasure Pamphlet. It can't be solved this way.

Sherman's family. What do we know about Sherman's family dating back to the period in question? The guy had an obvious fascination with treasure and writing treasure tales. Where did this fascination come from, perhaps?
