I would like to show a fine example of a Kirk, it's made from Agatized Coral, it was found in GA.
This point is one of my favourites, beautiful material.
I experimented a little & floated it, framed it too, I think it looks neat, just thought I would share it with my friends. :)
I couldn't decide which pic, so I put both on, anyone want any tips on floating points, just ask, be glad to help.

Molly.

Molly, nice point! Here is a Kirk my buddy found on a site that we hunt. It is 3 1/8" and killer! I am going to try to dig up some pics of some of my Kirks. I still need a new camera. Oh yeah, it is Hornstone.

Here is one I found a while back as well. It is the first point I ever found in the water and made of lovely St. Louis green.

Here is another that i actually bought from the finder. I think it is a pretty early stage form with little to no resharpening. It is a larger point and I love it. I do not have it with me right now but, it is larger than 2 1/2". I have not looked at it in a while and always called it Ft. Payne but, I guess it could also be Tyrone (Crab Orchard). It is from Wayne Co. KY.

Ok here is the pic. Sorry.

Dork, those are all nice but, that first Mercer piece is really fine! Man you have a lot of nice stuff.

Steve those are beauties, especially the black point, what material is it? ( sorry reply is late, thought this post was finished) ;D

Ok Twig, look forward to seeing your Kirks. :)

Molly.

Thanks Molly. I didn't want to highjack your thread when you first posted this so I waited for a while until I saw someone else post theirs and then I posted mine.

Both the top and bottom Kirks are made from Upper Mercer Flint. It can be distinguished by it's dark black, almost purple black, color and it almost always has the "lightning streaks" of quartz veins in it. I have a few other points made from this as well as I'm sure most Ohio hunters do.

I sure like the Mercer flint, shows up the flaking nicely. That's another material I'm familiar with now.
Steve, I never see ppl posting pics on my Threads as hijacking, I was hoping ppl would post Kirks for me/everyone to see. It's a good way to get familiar with this type, not only helps me, but others, so keep them coming. I myself had a little difficulty indentifying them at first, I see some types are unmistakably Kirks but, here in NC they seem a little different. The Notches aren't so deep, some without serrations, some round base, I've studied these type the most & STILL have to confer with my museum friend, here in my state, just to be sure.
Another thing is materials, here in NC one finds a point, its either Rhyolite, Quartz,Jasper,Chalcadony,Slate, I'm sure there's more but, the first two is what I find most. So again, it's great to learn about materials from other states.
Studying materials, surfing, doesn't really produce good pics, it's hard to see the distinction of certain materials, if not all but, Arrows show this, due to the flaking & great pics everyone takes. I'm hoping Matt (Baa !!!) will finish his lithics site, this will surely help ppl with material types.

So Thankyou guys for posting Kirks, it's helpful. I'll post some more Kirks on here soon, to show ppl what I mean about finding completely different types of Kirks.

Good Luck Hunting Everyone. I'll be so glad when Falls upon us, can't take this heat/skeeters much longer. :(

Molly. :)
