My First 2 Rings - Silver & Gold in the Same Hole!!!

Hello Tnet Members! :hello:

I found my first two rings today and they were silver & gold! My wife left me with my daughter and her friend today, so I couldn't get out to my local high school to detect. My wife specifically told me a few months ago . . . "Now, I don't want you doing any of your digging in the backyard as you'll make a mess of it!" So of course, I waited until she went out to dig there :laughing7: and today was that day! I was searching close to the walkway when I got a solid hit at the top of the nonferrous metal range, I thought, oh great another penny! Just then my daughter and her friend come running over from the swings to see what I've found.

I tell you, I felt like I was going in slow motion as I pulled the plug from the hole, checked it with my Pro-Pointer and then broke the plug in half. That's when I first saw these two beauties looking up at me from the mud! I swear to you, I thought I was going to cry when I first saw them! :'( I've wanted to find a ring for a long time and now I've found silver & gold together in one hole. The rings were tied together with a gold chain bracelet that has no marks on it.

The silver ring is marked .925 and has a deep blue stone in it (possibly a birth stone ring? :dontknow: )

The gold ring is stamped 10K and has 6 stones (possibly diamonds :icon_scratch:) and a red stone (possibly a ruby :icon_scratch:) in the center.

Thanks for looking and Happy Hunting!
Dave

Hey Dave CONGRATS! :hello2: :hello2: :hello2:

Great finds ..and in your own yard.

My very first ring (4 years ago) also had a red stone. A jeweler confirmed it was a garnet .. a bit less rare than a ruby but the tiny diamonds were real.

Hey Dave, I was going to reply to your last post, to tell you, you will find a ring, It is easy to be right after the fact, isn't it.

Also a person should start their digging in one's own yard. If you would have started there see how much shorter your wait would have been.

By the way they are both nice looking pieces. I also got a silver and gold last time out, (just finished vid posting soon) but not in the same hole, that is extra cool.

Congrats,
Rick

Hi Rick :hello:

You know what, I did start out by digging in my backyard as soon as the snow had melted back in March. The problem then was that I still didn't understand what my machine was telling me. But I've been out a lot over the past 3 months and I feel I know what my ACE is telling me!

Nice to hear you got gold and silver also your last time out! :icon_thumright:

Thanks,
Dave

I would bet that someone cried bucketsful after losing those two nice rings.
And, they look quite old. Those are not new rings.....those are some old settings.
Great finds......Your daughter's comment, and your wife's smiling comment....made my day.....(Don't even ask about the
2 ounce solid 24K gold ring that I found......still crying over that one.)

Thanks for your comments hikeinmts! :icon_thumright: I took some more pictures of the rings today and after looking at them again under my loop, I think they probably date from the late 1970's or early 80's. :icon_scratch:

Also, my wife and daughter are good sports about my addiction to metal detecting! :laughing7:

Thanks again buddy,
Dave

Re: My First 2 Rings - Silver & Gold in the Same Hole!!!

Wow, those are both gorgeous rings! And attached by a chain, totally awesome! :hello2:

I've also found some of my best finds have been very close to home. You should set up stakes or chalk lines to grid your yard and cover every square foot! Or maybe even rent a Bobcat excavator and dig a foot of all topsoil to detect! Your wife will love it! :P

(not a real suggestion, heh)

Thanks for the suggestion buddy! :D I take it that you've never been married! :laughing7:

If I did any of the stuff that you suggested . . . I'd be divorced, living in a cardboard box under a bridge and begging for change on highway off-ramps! :laughing9:

Happy Hunting to you!

Re: My First 2 Rings - Silver & Gold in the Same Hole!!!

Wow! Thats unheard of! I know the feeling of finding my 1st ring but my first 2 in the SAME HOLE! WOW!

Re: My First 2 Rings - Silver & Gold in the Same Hole!!!

Sorry, but I can't determine your type of stones from the photos. Hold the red one under bright light, and up to the light. If it is red and/or red/brown it is probably a garnet. If the stone becomes more purple than red with light behind it, it is a rhodolite garnet. If it is red with blue highlights in the stone, then probably ruby. In a small stone, it is hard for the uninitiated to tell for sure. Ruby, garnet, what the heck??? As long as someone isn't a Jan or July baby, it doesn't matter too much for as nice as the ring is.

Thanks very much for the information High Plains Digger! :notworthy:

Actually, I took the ring to my local jeweller for an evaluation today and was told that the stone is a garnet. My daughter was born in January, so I told her that I'd give it to her for her 13th birthday.

Thanks again,
Dave

That's a really cool birthday gift.

Thanks mate! :icon_thumright: She wasn't too thrilled about it when I told her . . . "that she was going to have to wait 4 1/2 years to get it!" :laughing7:
