Started out today at a local field that has proven successful in the past. It didn't produce too much except six buttons. The small one that was gold plated is really cool.

Decided to pack up there and move to a different place. First signal sounded like a dime. Dug down about 4-5 inches, but instead of a clad dime... a large cent appears! It's an 1812 Classic!! New Hampshire tends to be horrible on copper, but somehow this one survived in reasonably good condition. Got some of it on video...

Update: after re-watching the video, it sounds like it's my first large cent. Want to clarify it's my first Classic head... not first large cent. Sorry for any confusion!

Also picked up a 1912 V Nickel. Can't tell if there's a mintmark or not, but still nice. Also got a toasted wheat cent, go figure!

This might be the last real hunt of the year, so it may be a good way to end the season.

What did you use to clean your lg cent... ? ...

This one actually came out in good condition, and that was the big factor. There was no flaking and no verdigris, which is virtually unheard of for NH coppers. With this one I just rubbed with mineral oil and no other method was needed, fortunately.

Nice finds!

All the best,

Lanny

Nice find ...someday I would like to post a find like this!
