I found this large cent in the same general area as the reale i found last monday.this is a great spot, yielding many pewter spoon bowls, a knife blade (carbonised) an 18th century sewing bird clamp.

One down... more to follow! Seems like after the first one , all of a sudden they are everywhere.

Very nice coin, I'm going to try the peroxide on a couple of mine to see if they'll clean up!

nice coins! wish all my coppers cleaned up that nice without pitting.what kind of site ya hunting? cellar hole or standing home?

they are cellar holes, out in the woods,am not able to find any history on the site at all,and am unsure of the date/s of occupation. The cellar holes themselves produce nothing, not even nails which is unusual.I do find what appear to be remnants of sheets of zinc(?) or some similar sort of metal associated with the old slate roofing which is strewn about. The cellar holes are stacked slate, nothing more.

Very good condition on that coin. When I dug up my LC in South Jersey it was well bitten by our unforgiving soil. Mine was a few years older though, 1821.

well the woods here are a bunch of maples and white pines,i dont know if that makes a difference.

Congrats on your Copper & old spanish Quarter
The microclimate where copper coins are found makes all the difference.
You can find a pristine LC, and 10 feet away, a toasted wheat....
As far as the 'are you sure it's dug' comment goes, I see a dug copper here.
I have some late LCs and a FE Cent that came out of the ground smooth & Sweet.
take some time to think about it before peroxiding your copper.
sometimes the detail is in the organic matter coating the copper, peroxide will remove this.
It is not a totally safe method, I don't use it too often.
Look forward to seeing more finds
