My first SILVER and it's HUGE and MINTY

I love reading everyone's story on how they found silver(s). I often wondered "when will I post my silver find?" Well today was the day. I went out with the expectation of mastering my DFX and finding clad etc.
I went to an old church near my area (permission granted) and decided to swing for clad and perhaps relics. After 2 hrs of swinging I lapped up $1.15 in clad and my ....what I thought was the find of the day...a heart-shaped watch. Pretteee good, pretteeee pretteee good.

Now here comes the typical part.

I decided to head back to car "swinging" of course. I hit upon a reading of 89 on the MD. Well why not probably another aluminum can. I pushed my "mauler" in about 4" and knelt down and a blazing disc faces me. Wow a token of some sort. NO! Without even cleaning the dirt off I read 1833 and a lady's head. This coin looked like it was planted it was so immaculate! Even the soil was pure! All this only 10 yards from getting in to my car.

I thought I would gradually get to this type of find. Perhaps getting a worn barber first before getting something like this! Well coin is so mint that many of you may think it was planted. But alas, this was found in the ground untouched for 175 years. Thank you DD777 and Eu-Citizen for your conversations and encouragement. Hope to share more in the years to come.

Hat's off to ya.

Just goes to show always keep the coil to the soil even on the last leg of your journey back to your car. A friend of mine found a larg cent by doing just that.

There is another lesson there also and don't overlook that 10'-20' of space where you just get our of your car, a lot of times the close proximity to the parking space of your car is overlooked, because most people want to get deep in the woods or away from your car. Another club member found a huge silver ring within 20' of where all the club members met after the club hunt to share their finds. Again it was within about 20' of the parked cars.

Very nice, that is one sweet coin.

Hunter, that is one beautiful coin!! And you're first silver? Wow, what a way to break into silver. Reminds me of my first gold nugget found...nearly one ounce in size! Haven't topped it yet, and it may be a while before you top that find too. So enjoy it, and nice going on your first silver!!

Wow, my daughter is sitting her with me looking at it and holding her Morgan she dug up and asking questions about this 1833. Her Morgan was as black as a tar drop when she dug it up, this coin was shiny?

What would cause one silver to tarnish and another to remain pristine?

minerals in the soil can cause silver to blacken.. iron can cause an electrolytic action as well. very nice find by the way, I'm sure you're going to enjoy it for alot of years.
