well it looks like i will not be metal detecting any time soon. i was mugged and all was stolen. my detector, probe, digging tools, wallet, everything gone. luckily i was not hurt. don't know when i can get another detector. maybe the police will find them and i will get my stuff back. besides that it was a good b-day.
please be careful out there everyone.

I am so sorry to hear your tale. It can be scetchey out there but you did the right thing and gave it up. Your detector is not worth your life. unless you are out in the desert do not listen to the folks who tell you to carry a gun. The chances are you would find yourself in prison if you had used one or the muggers would now have it to use on their next victim. Anyone stupid enough to mug you for your detector will be caught shortly. Be strong of heart and the members of this forum will help to make you whole through their contributions. God bless you and your family this is your lucky day.

There is always going to be bad people in the world. Cant hide in the house all you life. The OP is probably not checking this thread as he has no detector. If you have been mugged, you are never the same afterwards. its important to pay attention. I get into some rough areas and make sure I make eye contact with the thug looking folks. With back and other medical problems, Im not much of a fight. But I worked in the steel industry and drove a truck for years. So if I get my hands around your throat your done lol, I will own you. Best defense is just pay attention and take yourself out of the picture if you can.

Sorry to hear the bad news brother. PM me if you need anything and I will ship. I have a few spare items, probes, headphones etc to get you back on your feet. Be safe and keep digging.

It is wonderful to see that the spirit is still alive. Lots of good people in the world yet.

About giving up: Where can one go and/or what can one do in this world where there is no chance of being mugged?

Granted, it's not good to set oneself up with a bullseye. But, even going out alone isn't as bad as you might think. Sure, protect yourself as best you can. Just be aware. It's not the only thing to keep one safer, but it is the best. If you suspect trouble, leave. Don't wait to see if it passes. If it happens, remember, give the material things up. They can be replaced. (not saying I can practice what I preach, just giving the better path).

Insurance is a good thing but you have to be around to benefit. ;)

Chin up and get back into the game. If it takes time, it takes time. Still need to get back up on the horse though.

Oh man, that is one big bummer! I too feel bad for you. Hope U got a good description of the suspect. Hope the police will eventually find the bad guy, make an arrest and be able to return your stuff.

I'll pitch in a few bucks too if you get back to us OP.

Ill help a little if its still needed.

David

thank you all for your kindness. it is like being in a very large family. it makes me smile. thank you all.

that's incredible! at least you weren't seriously hurt or even killed, hunt in pairs or as suggested get a concealed carry permit.

Hey Charles, sorry to hear that happened! Where were you hunting? I have hunted all over Reno and luckily was only approached by anyone shady once. I was by my car and walked right to it and left.
If you get back in the game again, I have some buddies you can call to hunt with if it will make you feel safer. PM me and I can get you in touch with them. (I live in Las Vegas now, so I can't be there to help)

Thank God you're OK! I think about this kind of thing from time to time myself. It's amazing how blind and deaf we can get out there swinging our coils. Post your PP info - there's a lot of really decent folks here on the forum - we'll help you out.
