well it looks like i will not be metal detecting any time soon. i was mugged and all was stolen. my detector, probe, digging tools, wallet, everything gone. luckily i was not hurt. don't know when i can get another detector. maybe the police will find them and i will get my stuff back. besides that it was a good b-day.
please be careful out there everyone.

What happened exactly Charles! That's why I conceal carry my firearm, I'm an instructor! If you live in kentucky I will do your class for 25 bucks to help u out! Sorry man that sucks

You got mugged on your birthday? Ain't that some.... stuff. Maybe try checking local ads, pawn shops for a bit. Your stuff might turn up there, or you might find replacement gear.

Just want too tell everyone that in today's times if you are going out into the woods or field that is close by a major interstate or route you need to be-careful about 2-3 years ago a MDer in Spotsylvania Virginia was attacked and mugged while hunting for Confederate relics by two large african americans with pistols and they took his wallet and MDer... You just do not know when you go into the woods that you don't go into much. You really should carry a pistol or bring some mace or something because seriously things like this happen and there are criminals looking for places too hide,etc and people who can see you from the road could decide you are a good person too mug.

It's outrageous! My son had his backpack & contents stolen by a sneak thief while he was nearby explaining how his detector works to some friendly old ladies, but it's MUCH WORSE that you got mugged and all your stuff stolen. I hope you'll accept a hug from this rather ancient lady. Andi

and this is why i hate people. Crime is overtaking this country like wildfire, a friggen guy out hobbying gets mugged? luckily you werent hurt and hopefully the police will catch up with these *#$_% #$#$#!_@ scumbags and get your gear back

You should check with your insurance company to see if your stuff was covered. Paying a deductible would be better than paying for all new gear. All my gadgets are covered by my renters insurance. I also conceal carry and roll with mace. I'm glad you're alright and you'll be back in the field in no time.

I'm a gun owner and a big NRA supporter, and believe we should all carry a gun on our hip, in the open, as a deterrent.

If someone wants to rob me and has his gun drawn on me, I think I would hand my wallet over. Depends on the situation, but unless you can put a bullet between his eyes, chances are you are gonna catch a round or two, even if you shoot him in the chest.

That truly sucks. Sorry you went through that. Here in Illinois we can't carry... yet. But your story really opened my eyes. It's a good idea to look up and around while you're detecting. And maybe headphones aren't a good idea at every site. If you have them on and your always looking down, you are effectively blind and deaf. Be aware if your surroundings.

I think that a Lesche Sampson with a serated edge can be a pretty good deterent also. I always carry mine in places where I think I may need it. Even with todays carry laws, if you shoot somebody even in self defense, you will be going to jail until self defense is proven. I think I can justify clobbering somebody with my sampson easier than shooting them.

I also have an ALMOST new Pioneer 202 Bounty Hunter. Not the fastest processor out there, but you'll hit a quarter down to about 8" in good soil and it's plenty reliable. If you can scrounge up 60 bucks, I'll send it right to ya. I think it's a $200 machine. Just an option. I'll send you some brand new garrett phones with it.
