Mystery "U"

Any idea what this hammered metal looking piece could be? I dug it at an 1800's spot today.
It measures about 1.25" x 1.25".

Thanks,
MM

Re: Mystery "U"

Clasp cover on a trunk and later worn and then lost as a shoe tap and recently recovered at a colonial site by a relentless metal dectionist.

you know, I remember seeing angel candleholders once, made out of metal, that had wings a lot like that. Could be a good guess actually.

No idea...

Every time I don't know what something is with a hole in it - it becomes a wind chime dangle.

BP,
Perhaps it is a furniture decoration piece that was placed under a drawer knob and a small nail held it in place? :icon_scratch:
Good guess.

Kyle just informed me that was Kirk in the picture. It's tough to tell those two dapper fellows apart. ;D
