I have not posted much in the forums lately simply because I have not found much, other than a few hundred old buttons. This is the year of the buttons for me. I can't even remember what a deep coin sounds like anymore!

I have been having fun finding buttons scattered all over though. I am curious about the two pictured. They were found in my "button forest" which has also produced a Spanish 1 reale and coppers dated from 1699 to 1839. I have not seen any of these types of one piece buttons before, so I am curious about the time period. My best guess based on my other finds close by would be 1800-1820? Any button experts?

This other "whatizzit" was found at a site that dates back to colonial times. I am at a loss to what it could be. It is shown next to an old Buffalo nickel which was found near by. Any help is appreciated!

Wait and see what the others think, but with that thin rim I tend to think they date into the 1800s like the ball buttons that kinda look similar. I don't recall any like that being found here but it's not something that would probably stick out in my mind.

Cool treasures. :icon_thumleft:
I would bet the bar is the 'keeper' from a watch fob chain.

According to Dating Buttons by Tice, that type of buttons are ca 1800.

Seems like most of the buttons found there are about that time frame (1780-1820).

I would agree this is a good middle point in the date range. 1780s-1820s

I agree the what's it is probably watch related, but more likely part of a ribbon fob.

Its kind of freaky. I never saw one until a week ago...now I saw two! I think the ribbon may be a good ID.
