The banding is not sedimentary. Its like an unbroken chain wrapped tightly, except it's more like an ink, for lack of a better word...but it's not ink. Honestly, it comes across as being more like a compressed data stream. Like a microfiche . The more loops around it makes, the more compressed it becomes. Very odd. Was given to my grandmother and it's been in our family for 50 years. Its been exactly that long, the wondering what the heck it really is. So any ideas? Does it need to be locked up, buried, or converted to a paper weight? It would seem to me it must be worth something, though. Figuring it out is on my bucket list😆🖖✌️🤷🏻

Neat rock. But I don't think it's anything more than that.

Edit: After another look, agree with later posters that it could be the end of a club or war hammer. Maybe.

My first thought was that it was the business end of an old Indian war club that was fashioned to the stone at the end of a piece of wood with leather straps, Leather straps would tighten down if soaked in water making for a strong grip on the stone.

There is a farm by me that has rocks like this on his corner barb wire fences ..he camber the corner post back a foot or so and hangs rocks off the post and the posts never move and the wire stays tight..you never mentioned the weight or size of your rock..

Its all of 9 inches long,, almost 6" wide. Weighs between 9 and 10 lbs.
