This is my first post. Please bear with me. I found this item on the Battle of Greensprings area, the British called it, the Battle of Jamestown Ford. Along with many American leadballs. Also a few British buttons. I have not cleaned it throughly yet. A crown with a pommel on top. Under the crown is some kind of flower. To the right is a unicorn with his horn bent, and broken legs. I'm sure there was a Lion on the left. You can see the broken edge where it was. Also the bottom shows where something had broke off. On the back one curved piece like and old buckle. Because of the green patina I believe it's made of copper, not sure though.

Good research Crusader.

The history DOES fit. According to the reference, the 30th and 63rd were in the Carolinas 1780 - 1783. Lord Cornwallis, who was in command at the battle of Green Springs, was leading the army invading the Carolinas at that time. It's a logical conclusion that elements of these regiments would be with him in southern Virginia.

Still researching...

Its another long shot, but the above has a crown over rose, might be worth emailing the Museum just to make sure.

Does the history of this one fit?:

I'm trying to determine the use of this piece and all I can think of is horse furniture. I found a small pic of British cavalry stirrup leathers that appear to have a similar looking badge on them. The pic is small and there are no details about the items pictured. These look like reproduction items but this is a possible use for the piece.

Any thoughts?
