Well just got my new A150 and had to give it a try. I went out to a park down the road from my house and started near the wood line and found a few coins and then i got a good hit and it was a cubscout tiecuff it is a neat find for me since I am new to this hobby. But how do you guy clean the stuff you find besides water and soap???? I have try it that way and some of the coins still look like they are dirty and can't make out the date and markind on them.

Well thanks for your guys help

personally that's all I use, even for 2000 year old stuff :laughing9:

Welcome to treasurenet and congratulations on the finds. As far as for your question, I would suggest keeping the coins immersed in distilled water. After a few days, I would rotate them in some olive oil. Later if you want to rotate them again, I would use an old toothbrush and use soapy water to carefully brush away. I have done that with many ancient Roman coins and cleaned them successfully. The only big drawback is you have to be patient and its tedious, as if you rub the coins the wrong way you may possibly damage them, hence losing any potential numismatic value.

Hey thanks guys for the info on the cleaning. well today i went out to a tot park and then the big park in town and hit the mulch and the unit went nuts. I had it set on coin and was tearing them up got a nice 1944 one cent about 6 inch down in front of the swing set. So then i turned the unit on jewelery and got a lot of pull tabs but then i herd a different sound and decide to dig it and bingo a nice size charm. I looked for some stamp on it but did not see any it looks like white gold or some thing. I can put a nice mark in it with my thumb nail and it is about 2in tall and 3/4w and weigh 9.6 grams. I will try to post some pictures of it and the cubscout tieclip and all of the coins as well soon as i figure it out lol.

Welcome, and congrats on your finds!
My best advise would be if in doubt about rarity/value, do not clean.
many times the details left on old coins is all in the corroded layer which will be removed by cleaning.
I subject recent crusty common coins to a harsh method.
has worked well for me on wheats & Indians
put the coin in a gas flame, then drop in cold water, poof, crust is gone, or at least loosened enough to remove easily.
I have gotten good results with this, as far as appearance goes, I think this method is less destructive than heavy scrubbing/harsh chemicals.
it may destroy the value of a coin, but if it's a choice between a faceless dirty coin and one that looks pretty good, I use it.
Again, I do not recommend this for any coin you are not ready to lose.
Here's the results from my first attempt, it was so crusted I couldn't tell if it was a wheat or an Indian.
Looking forward to seeing your finds ;D

Great finds stanski1980!
I just received my A250 three weeks ago and you have put my finds to shame!
You have given me some hope for finding some Au/Ag.
