New Member's 1832 Capped Half Dollar

All,

I am new to this forum - not having much luck posting. Had a good deal of luck yesterday in the field though! Will elaborate once I see the pictures of my find have posted correctly (just wasted 45 minutes writing the whole tale and lost it with an accidental push of the back button - note to self - don't do that again). This coin was found in a local park on a old road (accoring to an old map of the area). I went back toady and got a 1946D Quarter within 15 feet of the half dollar location. (My first silver quarter with the metal detector - I have only ben doing this for about a year now). Any other day, I would have been pretty excited about the quarter, but after yesterday it is acually a bit of a let down. Thanks for looking!

Re: New Member's 1832 Capped Half Dollar

A beauty! I was surprised, when I found an 1831 model, that they're bigger than the more modern halves. Great find!

Stellar find!!! And a Hearty Welcome to Tnet!

P.S.--I always right click and hit "copy" before I hit "post"--just in case.

Re: New Member's 1832 Capped Half Dollar

Halfdime - funny - I have a few walker half dollars (not found with metal detector) and after your post I compared the sizes. You are right the capped half is bigger! Also, even thought the edge of the coin is pretty ragged, I can make out most of the edge lettering. When I first looked at it under a magnifing glass I realized that instead of saying "50 CENTS OR HALF A DOLLAR" it says "50 CENTS ORLF A DOLLAR". I later found that this was a common mint errror on these coins - due to the tooling used fo rth eedge lettering. No added value due to error - but cool to see anyway!

Re: New Member's 1832 Capped Half Dollar

When you get to the capped series (as Iv read) they were discountiued cause ther silver value was more than the coins value so folks were melting them down. Another reason thier value starts going up at that point especially the very clean ones.
I think I'd have a uncontrolable bowl movment if i found that coin.
very cool find
