New to hunting arrowheads/Please help

plowed fields after rain washes em off for one. it takes time to get an eye for the signs of worked stone

also on rises near water, waiting for their prey to drink

I have luck by hunting in plowed fields near "old water" i.e. Swamps, springs,or creeks. I check the high areas closest to the water in preferably sandy or somewhat sandy soil. It works good in the area that I live in. Good luck!

Creeks and rivers when water is low. Good luck. Hope to see some of your finds.

Sometimes you need to think ''outside the box'', Hundreds and thousands of years ago there may have been more moisture and vegetation than is now present in your vicinity. In more arid areas you may want to check out near and adjacent to old river beds. Also ask around (older folks) about any old springs, and look for places that would be protection from the elements. If there are any mountains or hills in the area, always check the saddles between canyons and along the slope that goes down from these saddles.

There is one place that I a already new to look on my dad's land. I thought y'all my think this is pretty cool. He has a natural spring and about a 100 yards away from it there is a rock that is probably 500 pounds and it has a bowl carved out of it for grinding corn or what not. The other piece is still actually there. I wonder if that would be worth anything?

Would it be a good idea to carefully dig around that area and use a homemade sifter to go through all the dirt?

worth a try for sure

I'd also sift in and around the spring itself. Also.. if the spring feeds a creek ..look all along it.

It does feed a creek and its the only spring I know of in the whole county. Should be promising wouldn't y'all think? Thanks for everything guys! HH

No luck there but I did find a piece of maybe a blade in a field nearby. It's in this forum titled "possible unfinished arrowhead". HH

Well I went today for a short time to a new spot I had always wondered about. When you first start a new spot the first thing I look at is the rocks. If you see nothing but small quartz cobbles and no types of stones that could of been worked. Like the spot I was at, it is really a waste of time to look further. There has to be a good reason for somebody to have been there. I spent about an hour scanning the surface with no luck. If I had seen any type of good flaking rocks I would of spent more time looking but there just wasnt any. Hope you do well in your hunts in the future, rock
