Went to a spot today that is usually good for some CW lead and it didn't let me down. Had to hunt the edge of the swamp because some damn beavers have made a home in there and flooded some of the better areas. Anyways, I found several 3 ringers, the usual shotgun shell brass, and something I didn't expect to find there, Coins! 2 small spills and 1 lone Jefferson. All dates on the coins were from the 1980's A total of 7 coins = 24 cents. Dug some holes, got my knees dirty, and got some keepers. All around a pretty good day! Pics 2,3,4 are 3 ringers IMG_0044.webpIMG_0045.webpIMG_0046.webpIMG_0048.webpIMG_0047.webp001.webp

Good job buddy! We've got serious beavers up here. I'm talking beavers on steroids lol

Nice 3 ringers!

Nice finds congrats on the bullet.

Always a great day with finds like that. Congrats

Yeah Abe, up until the late '70's early '80's there were no beavers here. Then the our state decided it would be a good idea to re introduce them to this area. Now they are a huge nuisance.

Thanks guys, This site was always good for some 3 ringers and even an occasional Williams cleaner. There was a union outpost guarding the railroad nearby.

Ahh nice finds, been waiting all afternoon for this post heh.
Better than trout.

Mike
Going trout fishing tomorrow :laughing7:

You did well finding the three ringers in your plan B spots. A probably not so quick story about a beaver. MANY years ago when I was a teenager living in the Catskill mountains in NY a friend of my dads asked him if I could hunt and kill a beaver that was building dams on a stream crossing his property. My dad told him I would love that and said we would be up to visit that weekend. I got to the stream/pond early the next afternoon with my Marlin .22 LR, kicked back on a log and waited. About 45 minutes Mr. Beaver appeared. Now I had seen plenty of beavers in my life but I had to rub my eyes as I couldn't believe what I was seeing. This guy was the size of a decent sized dog. I took careful aim, squeezed off a shot, and he just laughed at me and dove into the pond. At dinner I shared my information with my dad and Wayne about the size of the beaver. They of course chuckled and said uh huh. Next day I did manage to put an end to his dam building days. I had a heck of a time carrying him back to Wayne's camp. When they put him on the scale he weighed 79lbs. No real point to the story but you mentioning the beavers reminded me of that weekend.........LOL

We have a little fire pond just up the hillside from me. Several years ago, we had a beaver take up residence there. He didn't even last the season. Never did know if he was killed by a person, trapped and relocated or what. I always enjoyed watching him though.
Anyway, nice finds. CW lead is a good find in anyone's book, but to someone in an area that never saw any CW battles or encampment, they are especially desirable.

Looks like you found some old RF shells too? Maybe Blackpowder centerfire? Nice finds!!

Nice finds. Glad to see some treasure coming out of NC. GL&HH!

Unfortunately, No. I've found them before, but not this time. .410 & 12 gauge paper hull brass and 1 military .38 special with FC 57 head stamp.

Thanks CT. These guys are getting few and far between down here in Craven Co. I hate to say this, but I used to just toss them in an old folgers coffee can in the garage. It was pretty much a guarantee that you were going to dig some. Nowadays, You would be hard pressed to find 1!

I hear ya Mr. B.

In the Charlotte area, we don't have any places to dig that sorta stuff. We are mostly coin guys... old houses, lots, parks and schools are our usual victims of our passion. Wheaties, Rosies & Mercs are what we mostly find. If I found a three ringer, I would be overjoyed... a coffee can full is just unimaginable. I wish you the best of luck on your hunts.

PS: We hunt a different kind of beaver around these parts!

LOL! I didn't renew my beaver hunting license 30 years ago when I got married! I tell you what, If you are ever make a trip down to New Bern, I'll take you out so you can get you a 3 ringer. Here's what I've got left in the garageBullets 001.webp
