Hi all,
I had the day off today, so I went to a school I hadn't checked yet..I had been to this area several weeks ago but saw the school was on a hill and seemed to be totally fenced in, but there actually was a way in, so off I went.
I heard a gas trimmer running when I got there and spied a groundskeeper right next to the area I wanted to check, so I walked over and talked with the guy for awhile and told him about about my hobby and the book about treasure hunting I was currently working on..I even told him about TNet
and told him that I just wanted to let him know why I was there and what I'd be doing (rather than just walking right by without acknowledging his presence). I also made sure it was a public rather than private school, and he verified it was public.
I let the guy get back to his work and I had just turned on my detector when I got my first signal, which turned out to be a small ring, the 25th one I've found this year. I showed it to the groundskeeper just to spark his interest a bit..he thought it was pretty cool.
I went back and found coin target after coin target. My total for the 2 hours I was there was $4.23 but I wasn't done yet.
On top of the ground (in an area I had just walked past) was this neat looking bracelet, found right on top of the wood chips.
I continued to search the entire area as carefully as I could, and was determined to find every lost toy, coin and whatever in those chips! Just as I was about to go home I rechecked the whole lot at random and got a pull tab signal between the monkey bars and the slide, so I dug down about 2 inches saying the word "ring" out loud over and over to myself, trying to be positive! There wasn't much garbage in the lot so I knew my chances were good. Out came ring #26.
I'm not really sure of its composition, but nice looking nonetheless. It's also larger than a child's ring and fits my little finger.
I also found a cat pendant (that blinded me with lots of little stones), a zipper, a button, a Chuck E Cheese token and a few odds and ends.
This is actually the kind of hunting I enjoy most - nice cool morning, easy digging and lots of targets. I've been searching old home sites this year as well for old coins..hopefully I'll come up with a few in the weeks ahead.
