Hey,

I recently got into metal detecting with a Nalanda 18KHz metal detector, but have been having problems with it. I've done tests and found it can detect coins just fine, but whenever using it over dirt or other ground outside, it keeps giving a reading of 95+. Does anybody else who has this model know why this is happening, or if I can discriminate against metals that high?

Not familiar with that model, but is this happening after you ground balanced?

I would try turning down the sensitivity.

See if that smooths it out a bit. It may be having problems with EMI or highly mineralized soils.

Select coin mode if it has one. More disc may help you out as well.

I would try some wooded areas where there isn't any EMI.
