Last year I was hunting an old castle site which I'm sure has been done over many times. The castle burned down in mid 1970's and has since been turned into a park with what is left of the castle. While hunting last year I noticed that on one of the 4 stone walls remaining one stone was sticking out significantly more then all the others. Having once read that this was done to mark something buried I decided to detect. About 3 feet directly out of the stone I got a high pitch tone on an object tvat appears to be 12" to 16" square. I dug it last year to about 16" down and still couldn't see it to recover so I figured I would return with a bigger shovel another day. Well stopped by the other day and had detector in car but no shovel. Went over with detector and it is still there. Any thoughts?

Come on now! How deep will your detector go? Probably max out at 24". You dug 16". Why did you stop?

Was my 1st week with the detector I had no idea how deep it will go. I'm heading there right now. Don't know if I will dig or not, it depends on how many people are there. I have permission but don't want people to complain about it. I will post pics today of Atleast what I'm talking about, hopefully more.

I'm going in

you have a long way to go yet , hopefully it will pay off :icon_thumright:

That's quite a hole for a public park. Good thing you had permission.

The few things I have found there I donated to the historic committee and they put them on display in the gatehouse that leads up to the park. They know I'll take care of it. Next spring I think they are giving me access to some spots on private land!
