I dug these at a site where a house was recently removed. Found this interesting heart belt buckle w/ some leather from the girls belt still attached. Brass hose nossels, copper tube, clad ect. 2012 8-9 007.JPG 2012 8-9 008.JPG 2012 8-9 009.JPG

I have seen that buckle listed in a couple of civil war forums. Its a sweet heart buckle or something. Might want to list that in the civil war part and get some opinions.

Nice score on the heart harness buckle, I was also told the same thing about my first one, they said that it was a bedroll buckle but they are in reality a harness buckle, they stopped making the brass ones around 1910 I think then they went to tin I think.

Thanks Garrett, I just might do that. I had no idea it was associated w/ the Civil War.

Harness buckle to what? You mean like horse/saddle tack?

Great finds! Love the heart buckle! I found one last November - The Heart buckle found turns out to be a CIVIL WAR HORSE'S HEART-SHAPED HARNESS BUCKLE SHIELD....ACCORDING TO
HOWARD R. CROUCH'S HORSE EQUIPMENT OF THE CIVIL WAR ERA, PAGE 168...THESE
ITEMS PROTECTED THE HAIR OF THE HORSE'S TAIL FROM BEING PULLED OUT OF THE
BUCKLE TONGUES. THE HEART MOTIF WAS VERY POPULAR.

Way to go Dan! I've never found any Civil War relics.
I would like to see you get more finds like this during our trip next week. Just hope the weather holds

After reading several links that have been sent my way ( thank you all by the way ) it is indeed a harness cover that went over the buckle and the heart motif was very popular like Brent said and used before the Civil War and may have been in the war but was never issued by either side....bummer.
