Our town recently purchased 150 acres of a peach orchard that had been in operation since the 1890's. I figured if they're charging me a couple hundred bucks more a year in taxes to pay for it, I'm going metal detecting.
Spent 1 1/2 hours today. Found a buffalo nickel, a few wheat pennies, some pieces of farm junk, and this sterling ring. It's quite unusual. Weighs 30 grams. the side and top emblems appear to be gold. What kind of ring is this? From what organization ? Definately will be going back again.

My guess is it's a Shriners ring. Anyway it's a great ring! Tsgman

Yes, that's the indication I'm getting. All the symbols for Shriners are there. I'll have to go the the Shriners hall and ask an ol' timer exactly what it is. (rank, etc.)
Went out in the rain today. Found some good stuff. will be posting pics by tomorrow.

Nope! Not Shriners Guys! If it were a Shriner's Ring, it would have the Shriner's Hallmark (See Below) and/or some Masonic Symboligy as you must be a Freemason before you can be a Shriner!

Although, I must admit that the scimitars in the rings' design are remarkable similar to Shriners Scimitar Design, I still don't think Shriners, because every ring I have found has the Shriner Symbol on it! Somebodys personal Family Crest wouldn't be center stage.

See I thought that too, but it does have the sword, and there is a half moon and star on one of the sides.... So that led me to believe it is a shriners ring, just an artsy one.

I know what you mean. I had to think long and hard about it, but I keep coming up against the Shriner idea. Mainly because I can find no artsy Shriner Jewelry. I have found gold, diamonds, and rubies, but every one has the specific Shriner Symbol. A Scimitar holding an inverted crescent moon with a star in the middle.

The Star and Crescent is also the symbol for the Islamic Red Cross. I still think this is some kind of Islamic Fraternal Order. Maybe my earlier joke doesn't seem so crazy now. The knight is a knight fighting for Islam? I know that Muhammad or Allah can't be pictured, but regular people or soldiers don't have that restriction.

Love the ring...HH

OK. I just PM'ed midas about this, but everybody needs to check this out! I was joking when I suggested that this was a Terrorist Academy Graduation Ring, but I just went on the Drudge Report to get some news. When the page opened, I was staring at a picture of one of the Palestinian Terrorists who are holding the Israeli Soldier. He is wearing a headband that has EVERY design feature of this ring painted on it. I mean they are exact. There is the Mosque Dome, The Knight on a rearing horse above a crescent moon.

Midas, I am rethinking this joke. It is starting to look a lot more serious now. I think you should contact The Dept. of Homeland Security. Show them the ring and the picture of the terrorist!

A little research into this symboligy got me this:

The Mosque is the Al Aqsa Mosque. The third holiest place in all of Islam. It is the place where Mohammed ascended to heaven.

The knight on the rearing horse above the star and crescent denotes an Islamic Crusading Knight.

The swords denote a willingness to fight. The use of swords shows an adherence to old tradition.

Doesn't sound like anything a normal Peach Picker would be wearing, does it?

HOLY CRAPnice work ,by the way i listen to drudge at night on sundays during work...an rest of the week to tom lykiss* and am coast 2 coast if its not some of the wall oddball crap....

Gollum, that is some good digging of information!

The only thing I would say in defense of the ring being something else is the way and manner in which the seated rider is depicted. The ring has a rider who is holding a sword, the headband has a rider who is holding the sword out in front of him, plus carrying a banner of some sorts, other than that it appears you are on to something!

Yes, I did notice that after I posted it about the banner. Uncanny nonnetheless. Still just a little too close for my taste!

Mike

Glad I went on Drudge last night. The picture is no longer there!

So maybe it is from Jihad U. Maybe from the fraternity Bomba-Killa-Jew?

I have taken the liberty to forward the picture of the coat of arms to a heraldic id expert. Maybe we will hear something back from them, and be able to piece this together once and for all. ;D

That's the one part of the ring that htrew me. The Coat of Arms looks European, not middle-eastern???

Mike, all coat of arms usually have standard symbols, so it could be from anywhere. I'm hoping this guy I sent it to can put together all the symbols and figure out who's it is.

Good to know. Thanks

Mike

Dear Dave
Thanks for sending the photo of the coat of arms. Unfortunately I have
to advise that it is almost certainly a fake coat of arms, so I will
save you some money by not attempting to identify it.
