Hi all,
Now, last I understand, this will be Fathers Day weekend in John Day?
I don't know when that is. I have been a father only 3 times that I know of but nobody loves me enough to tell me when it is. ;D
Have things changed? Some state campground there is last I knew. Can't be more than one and I did look it up. If it is first come/first served, I need to know.
Hope to meet BEF and Ima as well as all the others.

That is still the plan from what I understand too. I sure hope I am not working during it....even if I only got to run over for one day just to see everyone I would be very happy to do so! ;D There was a link to the page of the campground there earlier in the thread and you are right, it is first come, first served. I am not sure if David is wanting to camp or just stay at a motel and go spend the day with everyone. It has been awfully quiet in here lately. Last I heard Jeffro was gonna come and maybe even my podmate Nashoba....others were still contemplating it. Hopefully Wanda and Mikie would be able to come too! ;D Jiminy...it is past my bedtime and I hang out with the sleepless one tomorrow so I best be stocking up on some beauty sleep...gonna need it! Sweet dreams everyone!

Just talked to the office this morning and they are going to try and make sure I have Sat and Sun off that weekend so I can come see everyone! yay!!

Hey greydigger I won't be coming, the market (housing) is slightly rebounding here and I am working on a home to get it on the market. Sincerely would enjoy meeting everyone myself. You folks all have fun and many digs, I'll be on the sidelines looking forward to the posts

Well that's good and bad BEF, nice that you have chance to do some RE stuff,
but sad that you won't be in John Day.
I was hoping to help wrangle some wild cayutes also (altho I have never seen any).
Back in the last century, we had to chase our Arab in the Mohave desert when
he got loose. Wish they had vid cams back then. ;D
Cool that you can make it Cyn, hoping to get a motel room there so Jan can come.
Will find out tomorrow.
Anyone else for sure?
Is this just panning, or what? Time is getting shorter...

Greydigger;
There are a couple motels in Mt. Vernon about a mile away from the park. Not fancy, kind of like "hunters" motels if you know what I mean. Cyn and i will be staying in one of them also. If some one on this thread has a little time maybe they could check with State Parks and see if we could get a permit to do some M/Ding there.
I know a couple places in Canyon City about 8 miles away up on the "hill' that i have found some gold last year. Then there is the middle fork of the John Day that people say there is still some gold in it about 20 miles away. The John Day river runs along side of the park, I do not know if slucing/panning allowed. Some one should also check on this. Hopefully Jeffro will be there with his vast knowledge of info.
Anyway Cyn and I plan on being there for at least the weekend, mainly looking for gold. Also at Ausin Jct, about 25 miles away,up in the hills about 4 miles is a creek that I have found some good gold in.

To be honest I have no clue about the layout of the land there..... but if you put me in gold country, we'll get some for sure, LOL! :D

I'll be packing as much equipment as I can, minus the dredge for this trip. Plenty of pans, sluices, screens, etc. for everyone. And a few MD's too. You talkin MDing that gold or panning and sluicing Dave? Either is fine, I can read land pretty good.

I've got a few leads on some old mining ground, a couple mineral spots nearby, and an old ghost town or two to check out. More than plenty to choose from for just a weekend. If there was more time out there, I'd bring the dredge but its hardly worth it for just a couple days.

Lets see what we can get into! ;D

Dave, we need nothing fancy, just a ground floor room type thing.
Cheap is good!
AAA has no listings for Mt. Vernon, just for John Day.
May try looking up City Hall for MV and see if they have motel name.
Hate to get there and have no room at the inn.
Sure looking forward to learning from Mr. Jeffro, the knowledge source!
Will bring my 1 pan and 1 wet and 1 dry Md's.
Hope to have pinpointer by then too.
Should I bring a trailer to haul back the gold?
Nah, leave Jan there and come back later for her. ;D

Greydigger, give David a call and I am sure he can put ya onto the places to stay as we have stayed in the area before. The one place we stayed was very small and very cheap but even had a kitchen in it and David just called ahead and the guy had the room open when we got there, not your typical motel obviously but the guy had several rooms and mainly used them for hunting groups but could have them available at other times on request.

As far as dredging that is out of the question as dredging season does not open until mid July but we know some areas to go metal detecting as well as panning. I am pretty excited about the ghost towns though too! oh bah...I will admit it....I am just real excited about getting to meet everyone and visit even if I don't find a doggone thing....but sure would be cool to find something too! lol

Hey everyone;
Just got off the phone with the people at the motel/ r v park in mt vernon. I got a room for cyn and me with a kitchenette cost 59 a night. Phone number is 1 541 932 4712 they also have rooms that are 49 a night. r v hookups are 25 a night they have showers for the r v and a laundromat also..real nice couple if you call them tell them you are with the t-net group. the motel is a mile away from Clyde Haliday park.

Talked to John, we got a room there. Forgot to ask where exactly ::)

rofl That's okay my friend....David knows where...we will get it all figured out! :tongue3:
