Purchased the buckle a long with several original general service Union buttons at a local estate auction. I didnt spend a lot but was wondering if the buckle was original or a reproduction. The buckle was orginally displayed with the buttons around it in a display case. I checked multiple web sites but couldnt tell the difference. Thanks for the help.

Would you mind sharing how much you paid for the buckle? Here is a site with fake buckles, and the one pictured like yours with the spade back is a repro.

Repro. The hook that is not a spade lug is the wrong shape and thickness. Here's a real non-dug one. Notice the shape and thickness of the lug. The bottom one is a fake.

Thanks for everyone's help on the buckle. I thought most likely it was fake. Breezie I spent about $40.00 on the buckle which included about ten original Union buttons and some bullets. I was really after the buttons more since I had a good feeling that the buckle was fake but unsure. I can always depend on this forum to lead me in the right direction. I continue to learn new things.

nice repro, except for the patina being a little suspicious looking
