Otter time

Love this time of the year as the world starts to hibernate and the wildlife comes out to play.
Not the greatest photos as I was downstairs photographing through the sliding door. They were 285 feet away.

I'm jealous pepperj. Do you see them often where you are?
We have some here in Delaware (they eat the Blue Crabs that are in the water behind my house), but the Otters are very elusive and I've only seen them around 3 times in 3 years.

The freshwater Otters stay in the big creek system and the mill pond during the summer. They usually have 1 or 2 pups. The late fall after the boating/swimming is done they come up into the bay. There's a 100'x20' boat sunk (the bow end)just about where they are playing. Lots of fish hang out around the wreck it seems.
So basically from now through to may we'll see them a few times a week. It's great to watch them run from shore to shore, run, slide, run, slide....

This one swam right up to me while I was kayaking, made some cute little noise - and then disappeared. This was March 2024.
Only 2025 sighting was one swimming far off in the distance. Hoping for more close encounters in 2026!

Great photos..BUT I would be careful, though rare there have been incidents of them attacking people invading their space causing severe bite wounds, they have large sharp teeth and strong jaws.
