Item is pewter, and as you can see, very small. I can see an Eagle and “RR”? in a circle beneath the eagle. Please suggest a type out of Albert’s book.

unlikely youll find a match in alberts..
im seeing one r in oval, which was likely preceded by a number, as in 4r aka 4th regiment. thus an 1812 era regimental infantry button, a rare find congrats. those old pewters can be heartbreakers.
you can find similar here; https://www.civilwarbuttons.com/infantry
thanks mr leigh.

Is it possible you are seeing "RT" in the oval? Your button might date from 1798-1802. I will have to take your word for what is on the button as my wore out old eyes can't make out any detail. If it is a 1798-1802 button it would be listed in Albert's as GI 32 on pages 20-21.

I'm no expert on US military buttons... :icon_scratch:
But it does look similar to a War of 1812 US 1st Infantry button I found near Watertown, NY in 2013.
