Pony Express map holder

I got this at a antique store, it is a map holder from the Pony Express, they would put their map in it and they could store it in their pocket. I have only seen one other on EBay and it was listed at $6,999 and it looked identical to this one except the width was a little off, there was also a reproduction on eBay but the measurements were off on everything, also on the reproductions the lettering was different. I was suspicious at first since it had a plaque on the front but the other examples also have it. I was wondering if it is real or a reproduction, also what is it worth, I am pretty sure it is real but any help is appreciated.

I see now that your bottom picture, which clearly says "reproduction", is only shown by you as the EXAMPLE Of a "reproduction". And that that's not the item you're asking about in the upper pix.

I still think yours is a reproduction. The mere fact that someone in current times would make a reproduction of such a niche object, tells me that there are no doubt others floating around . Yes, even if slightly different than the particular reproduction that you found. I hope I'm wrong though

Thanks! I actually just found one almost identical to mine that is a original that sold at auction, all the lettering and everything is correct! Thanks so much for your help!

I have never seen a Genuine article and this is Pony express country. The lack of cleanliness has me worried a little as the inside of the bottom is real dark like liver of sulphur had been applied, without personally inspecting it I won't call it either way. Best of luck to you in the search.
