Went to one of my hay fields to hunt for an hour after dinner, had a few good signals. upon further inspection of my findings I noticed the word "Washington" around the rim of what I thought was just a large cent, I then noticed his shoulder bars, on the reverse A woman holding either a spear or flag. Date is either 1781 or 1818, I cant seem to find a match in the redbook or tokens book.
the coin is paper thin, so cleaning it would most likely ruin whats left of it.
any info would be greatly appreciated,
thanks,

Could it maybe read "WELLINGTON" - like this?

Nice job IDing and a very nice find.

But it is still a really cool find :) I know I would be happy with it. I also like how it is holed. Someone wanted to keep it safe. I think holed coins are really interesting.

great ID, you must be familiar with these, ive been thinking on getting a Canadian and European Redbook of sorts, I find so much weird stuff not to. But it did feel great thinking I found something that relates to G.W. ...I mean , who doesnt admire him?
thanks again,

Looks like a Duke of Wellington coin.......WGT Nice find.

Yes, very similar to the 1783 GW military bust type so can't blame you for thinking you had something... especially being teased so bad on the lettering! Not too much to sweat though because it's not a rare coin and doesn't really have that much significance. A decent Colonial is every bit as good, and there's plenty out there to find!
