Hey folks!

Got out for some masked up detecting with forum member NoThisIsPatrick this afternoon. Didn’t have too high of expectations for the outing other than hoping to find a piece of silver.

That wish was granted on the second dig with this ring!

I hummed along and found a couple tax tokens and then got a 1940s wheat at around 4-5 inches. I swung over the plug and got another reading. Two inches away I found a Merc!

Turns out it was just any Merc but a 21-D!

I revealed the date next to Lucas and remarked, “I don’t think I’ve found that date before, maybe it’s rarer.” Neither of us knew offhand if it was one of the key coins in the series. He looked it up and sure enough! It’s a key date and second only to the 1916-D for value. It’s in roughly VF shape which theoretically pencils out to around $300.

Turns out it was a pretty busy 2.5 hour outing!

Other notable finds included a 43 Merc shortly thereafter, a couple modern tokens, a KGVI cent, an old earring and what I believe is a WWI General Enlistment button.

Lucas also had a great day, hopefully he shares about his finds!

Good luck out there all

Congrats on a hard to find Merc!

Great find. I dug a 1925 D mercury dime about a week ago. My oldest merc to date. Was also pleasantly surprised to see its value around 150 $...its a great feeling isnt it ! Great job

She's a beauty, congrats on a rare merc there's not many of them out there. Really nice assortment of recoveries

Nice finds my friend. Its been too hot and dry in Pa to do much digging.
