As is often the case......I was bumped off the roster today in favor of a film crew !! Dang it man !! To say I was disappointed would be an understatement !! Thats what happens when your low man on the totem pole. I sort of expected it when that bogata minted gold came up. But I had a small find of my own yesterday, a small piece of lead sheathing. Now that probably dosent sound exciting, but this is the good type of lead !!! It has a small tack hole and the faint print of canvas on it. When you see this canvas print it means only one thing, money chest !! So I found the lead lining of a money chest. To have the canvas print embedded in the lead means it was heavy with coin !! So ill hunt my own spots and keep on plugging. Im standing by and could go tomorrow. Oh well such is life.

Bart,

So putting on your detective hat means that treasure chest got broken up in the ocean and some of the spilt coins should have washed ashore in the general area.

Good luck finding the stash. If you remember where the lead was found I'd treat that as the X and detect in all direction from there and hope for the best.

To bad about getting bumped but stuff happens out of our control sometimes or in my case lots of times.... :laughing7:

Tom all the coins and artifacts are given to queens jewls llc. For safe keeping until the end of the dive season. Everyone who dives and works the wreck sites is a subcontractor for them, as they own the wrecks !! At the end of the season the treasure will be divided among the state, the salvagers, and investors. Once the split is made everyone is free to do as they please with there cut of the treasure. Some will be sold, some will be kept for personal collections, some will be donated to various museums, and the state will lock theres in a dark vault somewhere. One thing that is always done today is all the artifacts and treasure are digitally cataloged for future reference. This way the entire collection is kept in totality for future generations to study. Even when the treasure is divided and parted out all the details of every piece are kept in a master log that is updated every year. So none of the coins and treasure are sold directly from the deck of the boat by individual salvors. Now that being said many pieces found by individuals on the beach are sold and traded as fast as they are found with no records at all. There is an effort to catalog these finds, but no one really knows how much is found by metal detectorists on the beaches.??

Stay safe wd and please post some pics on the fish pic thread for me, wont be long before im back fishing again. Man that really dosent look good on the radar !! BE CAREFUL WITH OUR HEROS. I know how dangerous weather like that can be on the lakes !! Dont foget your foul weather gear.

Bingo !!! Bill that little scrap of lead is a good sign/clue. Due to some land marks being changed around I ended up about a mile from where I wanted to be......as I slowly worked my way back to the spot I found it. So now there is another possible spot. I also visited with phippsfolly mike......it was a real eye opener to what an individual beach hunting can really accomplish !!! Massive amounts of treasure can be found by determined individuals that have the drive and stmina to push hard and where out machines !! I was blown away by his knowledge and skills. He really opened my eyes to what can be accomplished, he is truly a humble and amazing treasure hunter.
