Well went to several places detecting for civil war artifacts today and didn't find much from running away from pop up showers and skeeters but when I left there we decided to check out a possible turn of the century home place till one of the landowners we hunt on got home. Was walking along out in the back yard of this old house and never found anything good except for 2 zinc cents when I walked near a recent looking burn pit and right on top of the ground where some dirt had been turned over was this token. It reads on the obverse "save at the sample stores bentonville and Rogers Arkansas" and on reverse says " every dollar earns 3% interest 3 cents" looked it up and it's a freaking r-9 on rarity and only 3 to 5 known to exist. Talk about a good day:)

Thanks joe. Reason I haven't bought other token is I usually don't buy my stuff whether it be coins or tokens or cw relics. Usually like to find it, or drool over it till I do find one. Bought some old set of Indian heads in a case for my 4 yr old once and a proof set of coins for her bday

I don't normally buy stuff (but a few coins etc) & have a huge dug collection, but if I see an ebay mistake I jump all over it. It's OK to make money with Knowledge & good books, it pays for my other collections.

looks like a rusty nail was lying on top of it, pretty sweet anyhow! I havent found tokens yet, i may like them more than coins:icon_thumleft:

Crusader, honestly if I had the money to buy it I would. I would definitely say anyone buy it but I don't have the money.

Cjon, not sure what it was but does look like a nail. I found it on top of ground and didn't have anything on it then but could have had something on it at one time. Tokens are neat. I have found three fairly rare ones before. One from a town that no longer exists but has another town on top of where it was.

Is it. Does it say who bought it:( well hopefully someone researches it

Wow. I saw it only once on there today then u got it. Haha btw good find to you. I guess why I was so interested in it is the fact that the sample stores was a pre Walmart thing that was put out in small quantities. There was I believe 2 other types of these tokens this type being the rarest

Maybe one day I will find a banner find:) I am gonna go out today and hit it again in fort smith see if I can pluck some more rare items

Cru: You got that right: "He is just putting a well known saying in the right order, your statement didn't make sense."
Andi: If you get to the Oceanside area we'll meet and compare ID's, the youngest buys the beer.
Keiser: Congrats, you, apparently, bought a rarity for next to nothing.
Don.....

Is it just me or does it seem like unless it's some super rare roman coin or revolutionary war artifact people will always put your find down. I know from living in Arkansas and being around the founding city of where Walmart started its roots that this token would be well sought after not only for collectors but the Walton family museum in bentonville. The article states these were made for same Walton around early 1900's for his chain of sample stores. There are 3 types of tokens this one being the rarest.

Sorry that would be Sam Walton freaking auto correct

its a nice piece ,but dont let what is said get to you just enjoy your finds and post them ,,and keep on hunting ,

Oh don't worry I'm still pretty excited. A few comments aren't going to get me down:)

Great find, does it say Made in China?

No beans it doesn't. Haha

Nice find, but re-check the AR book and you will see that this one is R-4, not R-9. The R-9 one is octagonal and made of cardboard. Yours is Bentonville Ba-03 and Rogers Ea-03.

Ok Idaho joe blow or whoever you are you don't live here nor doubt you have a updated version of the token book. My numismatist who has personally worked at pcg before opening his own business and has probably graded more coins than you ever dreamed of touching gave me this info

How do you delete your treasurenet membership. Been a member a long time but am sick of people running others finds back into the dirt
