I dug this my last time out which was just over a week ago. These are extremely rare and very valuable. Being in Ohio I never dig Confederate items but recognized the state seal and knew it had to be good. This is in amazing condition for being in a farm field.

Thanks Walt. I only have a picture of a general service eagle button. Also got 3 button backs (grrrrr)
As for coins, I have 1860,1864 (cn),1864 bronze, 1865,1880, 2- 1891 indians. 1868 and 1869 shield nickels and a civil war store card.

Big congrats on a find we'd all love to get!

that's awesome

That deserves a trip across the top! Banner vote.

It won't make banner. New member.

Yep. Too bad, that’s a killer find. I can’t recall seeing one posted here before and I’ve never seen one in person either.

Not really concerned about the banner deal. Not even sure what that's all about to be honest. Just wanted fellow treasure hunters to see really good finds are out there and can be located in places they are least expected. Thanks for all the kind words.

That's one awesome find and save. A rare dig for sure. Congrats on that beautiful breastplate.

Banner vote...congrats !! Beautiful condition !

Wow, some of the stuff you all find out East is just unbelievably cool. Good work finding a once in a lifetime item. Thank you for sharing with us too!

It is absolutely unbelievable that this is not a banner find. This is one of the rarest state militia (pre-civil war) plates known. In Fact, it's one of the rarest plates.....period!

Relic hunting here in Virginia for the last 30 years, as well as being and avid collector, this is absolutely one of the top plates known. These are almost never found.

MSpeiser, this has always been a dream plate for me. About 20 years ago, I could have bought on from a digger at a Civil War show here in Virginia and didn't. It was a personal mistake for me.

Congratulations! This is certainly one of the top finds I've see here on the net.

If this isn’t a banner find, nothing is.
