I've already found several primitive/hand-made tools and nails near the site of an old mill in our neighborhood. Pulled this one out yesterday - looked like a rock. Tumbled it overnight and then electrolysis all day. I appear to have a hand-made (?) 1/2 socket with a 1/2 drive. I can't make out any maker's mark. Not sure if that's because it just that corroded or because it's just that primitive. Anyway, this made my day! Thanks for looking!

That's some awfully clean scrap metal! What did you clean the IHP with? Better luck next time out.

Dougie, interesting find, although I doubt I would have
put out in the effort of cleaning it up..you did a nice job.

It's been beat to hell and back, so there's really no value
other than being an interesting artifact from what used to
be there.

I'm a mechanic and I just love old tools. So this socket was especially cool for me to find.

for some it would be a waste of time to clean a piece that has no cash or historical value , but you are getting practice and experience before it really counts. If you are enjoying the hobby I say have at it.

Yeah, that's my take on the whole thing. I found a very valuable penny not too long ago, and this socket is a much better find in my mind, because it's unique. NOW....if the penny were worth $10,000, then that's a whole nother story!

I would say it's a Williams from the late 40's. I have several old sets that are not plated, some as late as 1954.

Wow, good stuff Tony! I poked around and say that is a pretty good bet. Looks like they were one of the only games in town back then (I guess Sears Roebuck is possible too?) -- and the more I think about it, it just doesn't make sense that someone would try to forge their own.

Update SC? You up by Walhalla?

Very interesting find. Sounds like you are on the right track to real I.D. of the socket! Thanks for sharing.
