I was hunting today along an old trail through the woods running parallel to a creek. I noticed that there were some rocky sandbars below a bend in the creek. I had hunted some sandbars before but didn't find much of any interest. A guy was out on a sandbar poking between the rocks with a stick. I asked him what he was doing and he said he was looking for coins and things laying on the sandbar and in between the rocks that had piled up there. I said why don't you get some proper equipment for the job and he said he was doing o.k. by just lifting up rocks and looking for circular forms in the sand. Said he had found a couple Mercury dimes, a Barber dime, a silver Washington quarter and quite a few wheat pennies, along with a bunch of lead sinkers and other artifacts. He said he's gotta get him one of those metal detectors for himself and why don't I come out and see what mine will find. So, I went out on the sandbar and promptly found a few wheat pennies that he had missed. I also found quite a few sinkers and bullets and knives and spoons, etc. After a while I found a silver Roosie (1961) about 5 inches deep in grassy mud near the bank of the creek. It was tiring work, so I took a break, taking the stuff I had found back to the car. I said thanks to the guy for letting me hunt his spot and he said come back again. After my break I hunted along the old trail again and found some nice things just off the trail. One hole about two inches deep held a buffalo nickel and 3 wheaties. Another hole four inches deep had a 1942 Washington quarter. I hunted another hour or so, finding some clad pieces and memorial pennies and just got too tired to continue and slowly walked back down the trail and up the hill to my car. It was a real good day, with prospects of finding more good stuff in the following days.
Here's the silver, buffalo and wheaties:

The clad, memorials and other things:

Other "artifacts" including several pocket knives, spoons, sinkers and more bullets:

One of the old spoons was silver plated at one time and has some neat engravings on the handle, including an eagle and Maryland on one side and U.S.A. and a shield on the other side. Hope these can be seen.
