Well from what I found out it is 300-500 yrs old and called a side notch. The material is still a mystery. I have to ask what other sites you have posted this on?
Hey mainejman, this was dug up out of my bracken site about three years ago. The notches dont have much patina on them for whatever reason. I know that it looks peculiar but i also pull out prolly 80 to 100 other pieces. it was around three feet below the surface. I took it to the a few shows and dixon mounds. In no way do i believe that some one buried it out in the woods and sprinkled other artifacts all around it
Also, anyone who looked at it under a scope sang a different tune. And many have called it an anomaly
I value everyones opinion. But i think if youre gonna voice an opinion you have the responsibility to base it on some reasonable facts. Not just negative assumptions. As far as getting something authenticated to me that is for people who buy and sell.Thats a whole different world....
Exactly! Some people just don't know how to go about being skeptical and perhaps without realizing it word things in a way that causes ill feelings. The problem, as I see it, is that some people, if they see something that is a repro, think the problem MUST lie with the presenter. These people simply assume the worse, not just of the artifact, but of the person presenting it. Some will say do not answer with "but I found it, I dug it!" To which I say bull! Of course people can say "but I found it" in reply to a skeptic. If it's the truth, it's the first reply I expect. But then you will hear "that does not make it authentic!" Well, maybe, but you are entitled to answer as you see fit, nobody owes any self-described expert any explanation at all. Ever! Some people mean well, they state they are protecting the hobby, but when they come across with an accusation tone and telling people "don't just tell me you found it, not good enough!", people like that can go pound salt, who needs it? It's an artifact forum, not the "Artifact Board of Inquisition". There's an undertone of anger in their remarks because they are upset at seeing a "fake" or what they believe is a "fake", so, perhaps without realizing it, they write long winded defences of their accusational style, when in fact, nobody owes accusational inquisitors anything at all.
Obsidian: Obsidian mineral information and data.
please notice, keeping all opinions on this artifact to myself...
pg 1 "I have never tried to get a COA on it cause I will probably never sell it."
pg 3 "I did try to have it authenticated by a firm in Sedona. "
Aww shucks! I am guessing you must have forgotten about that time you tried to have it authenticated when you first posted it?
