1 half of it is like a hamburger shape and the other is square. Its smooth, no little grippers like a lighter has on the thumb strike......I did compare it after reading your suggestion while lighting a Marlboro ;D It reminds me of a .22 cal pellet like I used to shoot from my Bejamin (those were the days). Can any body here weigh a .22 cal pellet?

The first 3 pics all appear from the same angle. Could we see a clear pic of top and bottom? Is that a screw on the bottom?

5/16=.312" The old Benjamins were either .177 or .22, the older Sheridans were 5 mm /.20 cal. i shot a gazillion of all three, lol.

So it rules out a pellet. There is also a bit of a "tit" on this thing where on a pellet it would be concave at the back to allow the air to push it through the barrel..perhaps this was attached to something??

Looks a push-in oiler. The rounded thing on the end was spring loaded and could be pushed in with the spout of an oil cup?? Tony

Not a pellet. I have a sheridan here at the house and the 5mm pellets look nothing like that. That is not lead. Looks like copper or brass ???

Looks to me like a push-on shaft retainer/end with the shaft broken off inside it.

its solid, not copper or brass because it registered a full bar on pull tab......first time I have had something other than a pull tab register as one. Brass or copper will definitely ring in a "95" on my TID. Not lead either, I tried to scratch it but not soft like lead. It was on the side of a house thats over 100 years old. Puzzles the heck out of me. Thanks for all the suggestions! We may never know what it is. :icon_scratch:

It looks like the little piece that goes on a snap setting tool (the die)

They come in different sizes, with different kinds of nipples, for different sized snaps and grommets.

Can't find a better picture, sorry.

Could you clean it up and post some other pics? I cant seem to see it very well. 2 pics are blurry and the other two have bad shadows. Im not trying to criticize, just trying to help ID. Taking the pic outside in the sunlight should eliminate the lighting problem.

Looks like the inside parts of a faucet. There would have been a longer shaft with screw threads attached.Made of brass. Were the screw is a rubber washer would have went on there and a steel screw.
You probably found that near the out side water faucet.Maybe other metal in it that gave you the reading you got on your detector.
Does the top have a hole with a small piece of metal stick en out ?
Rub with sand paper it,s brass or copper.
