Hey folks, I just dug this pin in Western Tennessee this morning, about 1" wide. Anyone recognize it? I am about to try to clean up some more but might lose more detail. Figured I would ask here first.

Unusual find! I wouldn't be able to resist scraping the crud off so I could read it. Maybe a leather strap adornment or badge. It has the pinch tabs on the back. Used to be plated, probably. I am not advising you to do that, but I would.
I do belive you are correct for the leather. I will scratch it up this evening :) 😀 I think it says combination on the bottom left

What kind of patrol? Will try some more tonight
I am thinking its more a "school patrol" type.... but ?
Traffic guard like... or ?

I mean it could be a real badge but it does not come across as "serious".

Also toy "strap badge" type possibly.

Could be totally wrong... until you scrub it with soap and water... wont know for sure.

Ah gotcha, pretty sure it is for leather like Krey said above. When I get home I will try to no to destroy but get more detail off it :)

The strap badge possibility / theory would also apply to a leather strap.

I bet you're right about school patrol, something geared toward kids. I noticed a figure seems to have a cross-chest strap of some kind. Just like school patrol, kid's military-ish type clubs.

2 things that might help ID it. 1. Who or what is that character in the center? 2. Can you give any more detail where is was found and what might have been there years ago?

Maybe it is just pareidolia, but I think I see a coon skin cap, so I was thinking something to do with Daniel Boone, so maybe it's boy scout related. Maybe a sash pin or something to that effect.

My guess for the wording is ....... PATENT / COMBINATION .......

I tried to search for that and the only possibility I have so far is something called "Pratt's Patent Combination Brace" that was advertised in 1874. Also shown in the Montgomery Ward catalog from 1895. I'm not sure if the full wording is a match but I thought that the image on your piece could be of a man wearing a shoulder brace with the straps crossed over his back.
