Hello everyone:

Call me Les.

For many years now, I have owned metal detectors. Right now I own four. All my life I have heard about dowsing but I wasn't really familiar with it from personal experience. In fact, I was somewhat of a skeptic about it.

A couple of years ago I was talking with my Rancher Cousin in southern Utah. He told me he had dowsed for water for his ranch. He told the driller where to drill and that they would hit water at about 70 feet. They hit moisture at 70’ and full flowing water at 90’. That was almost 20 years ago and that well is still flowing water today.

He explained it with such conviction and certainty that I became curious about dowsing. So I bought a couple of brass rods from the hardware store and made some dowsing rods. After all, the water tasted good too and I needed to find out for myself.

To my utmost astonishment and surprise, when my rods crossed, I found a metal target in the ground. I continued dowsing and found all kinds of things. Most were trash items with a few coins along the way. However, the undeniable change dowsing brought was the speed to an unseen target. Using only my metal detector, in most cases it would have taken and extremely long time to finally get the coil over the target, if indeed I happen to do that.

I have dowsed over 300 times now and have had phenomenal success in finding targets.

I first dowse to a target then when my rods cross, I pinpoint it with my metal detector. What I am saying is you really should try it for yourself to see how it works for you. Like myself, it could get you to targets much faster than trying to overlap a detector coil over a large area so as not to miss anything. Dowsing is simply another tool you can use.

Now, there are skeptics who will challenge you along the way and that's OK. Just remember, you would be doing it for yourself and no one else.

Below is a picture of my latest find that I found in my back yard. It's a 27” L X ½” D piece of scrap main power electrical line. It was about 45’ from where I started dowsing and about 1” deep in the ground. This find, being aluminum, in and of itself is not worth much, but like all other finds while dowsing, it is very significant in that it was found while I was dowsing.

I will be posting other finds as time goes on.

njnydigger, why are you so negative about everything? If you don't believe in dowsing, you don't have to reply to discussion.I for one know that you are wrong.so please quit showing your ignorance to everyone!Enough said!

I got a few questions for the couple of skeptics here who have nothing to back up their opinions other than rude insulting remarks.......

If you're such scientific people who need proof, why is it you don't challenge the dozens of daily posts showing metal detector finds?
Really, do you have proof that each post is legit?
How do you know that someone didn't dirty up a couple of barber's (bought at the local coin shop) and make a fake post? There's no proof that they actually did find those coins but we take their word for it. Beach gold looks as shiny as the one sitting in someone's jewelry box on top of their wife's dresser. We all accept that it was found at the beach and say WTG! Can you prove each post?

What motive would the fellow who posted his junk finds here have for sharing that dowsing worked for him?

What motive would the tons of people who have found water, utility lines, etc. have for sharing their experiences?

In my opinion, it is to simply tell us that this method has worked for them. The cost for a coat hanger, copper rods, or a willow branch is nothing. There is no hidden agenda and nobody mentioned anything to do with LRL's.
I never tried dowsing but have made some incredible finds from intuition and without even turning the detector on. Would I post those results on T-net? Never! Too many A-holes here!

Finally, what motive do you skeptics have for trashing every post about someone's finds from dowsing?
If it's simply to provide the "truth" of the matter, then why don't you focus your efforts on more ridiculous things like religion or politics! :D

I'd love to try dowsing one day. I certainly won't post my results on this forum! >:(

"Finally, what motive do you skeptics have for trashing every post about someone's finds from dowsing"?

Easy question. Easy answer: FEAR!!

ok in the morning I will go try this. I was skeptical about the broom standing alone during the equinox but it worked.

It works for finding water pipes, Faraday principle, moving water makes a current, metal pipe amplifies it, two L shaped metal rods move and cross when you walk over the pipe, any fool can do it, try it in your front yard!

good morning heepiepow: good presentation, but may I ask just how would the randy group profit 'IF' they accidentally encountered a true dowser, or other paranormal performer?

They lose $1,000,000 dollars, lose their site, platform, reputation, and status.

Now realistically, do you actually think that they would risk that with a valid unloaded test to gain what ?

Don Jose de La Mancha

They wouldn't profit! As you say they'd loss a million bucks and, to many, their entire reason/justification for their skeptic advocacy/insistence. However they ARE so sure that paranormal tests will never succeed that they do take that risk--for the sake of debunking dozens or ridiculous and ineffective psychic phenomenon and activities. In their current substantiation they're challenging folks like Sylvia Browne and John Edwards--cold readers exploiting the sorrow of their audiences.

I do think they risk this with an unloaded test. While paranormalists may moan at the details of a test (and many seemingly deconstruct/overly criticize the parameters just to get an "out"), Randi/JREF do imo honestly want a secure, fair test for any clailmant. And are quite willing to modify the particular test to the particular claimant's demands, if it ends up still as a fair test.

Here's a link to the JREF Million Dollar Challenge claims: http://forums.randi.org/forumdisplay.php?f=8

I haven't been to the forum for awhile and when I was there were hundreds more thread on it, nearly all where supposed "physics" hemmed and hawed over the testing phase and never committed.

As for dowsing specifically, I remember at least one claimant being tested in a "first phase", where some JREF reps went to his site to test, and he failed.

However, the test was for dowsing metals (I think they set up several buckets with randomly placed metal objects, or nothing, in them, and they failed). The anecdotal evidence seems to be that dowsing works best with water, so I'd certainly like to see a succesful claimant demonstrate that type. I'm a skeptic who wants to be disproved so paranormality can enter the world, and stuffy-shirt skeptics can get their (our) noses bloodied. I'd love for a real ghost to be scientifically demonstrated, or a dowser, or psychic. But so far no solid proof has been found, and I do think JREF at least gives ample rein for claimants to prove it.

So by the way have studies by governments and serious Univerities. See MKULTRA and Princeton parapsychology research and other Universities. Most if not all have shut down all investigation as the consensus is no statistically relevant effects exist.

Personally, I think effects may indeed exist, but only for exceptional humans, maybe one a century or whatnot. So testing random people is not going to produce much effect. Anyway even as a skeptic I find the entire parapsychological field fascinating and potentially productive. It's just that to date no scientific results have proeven overwhelming, or even statistically significant.

p.s. I think "anecdotal evidence" is too seen as irrelevant by scientists and researchers. I think a preponderance of it should weigh as evidence. And there does seem a preponderance of succesful dowsing for at least water.

Not taking any sides here, just a question.....if the metal pipe "amplifies" the Faraday principle current, what happens when the water pipe is in plastic, i.e. pvc, does it still work?

Well, Judy, I have to say that I buy into the first reasoning you posted. Any conductor passing through a magnetic field will produce electrical current and, hence, its' own magnetic field. Now, what makes the rods cross, especially non-ferrous rods, is still a mystery.

Oh yeah, one other item.....kudos on the avatar.

Actually, pure water (distilled) doesn't conduct. Of course, one does not find a lot of distilled water flowing naturally. ;D It is still the rods moving thing that has me boggled.

There's smoke? ::)
